Default Bracing

Start off by saying Beautiful work, if you can call building guitars work. Lol.
That is a very interesting bracing pattern on the top. Haven't seen anything like it before. What effect do you think it has on the response? Russ Parker

I’m partial to symmetrical bracing patterns, I want the top to move evenly. Tough to say the exact effect on tone, but I will say that a comment I often get is that all of the strings on my guitars carry a similar timbre.

A quick word of praise for Dion's work--very clean, very attractive. The two guitars he brought were inspiring. Nice chatting with you Dion!

Nice!
Is this a regular thing, luthiers buying other luthiers guitars?

I would think it isn't that common, since most luthiers I know teeter on the edge of bankruptcy. (They don't mention that in guitar-building books, by the way.) No, rather in this case I was just giving Dion a well-deserved "attaboy".
As it is, I'm coming home with four guitars anyway...*sigh*

Default +1 for Dion

Yeah Dion's guitars were stunning in person. The lace back pattern very impressive! Very nice to meet Dion and chat for a moment.

Thanks for the kind words Steve! That means a lot coming from a builder of your caliber. So nice to see both of you and play your incredible sounding guitars.

Thanks so much for the words, and thanks for stopping by the table. I had a great time meeting so many new faces and having people play my guitars.

Here are some finished shots of the lacewood Guitar. The Lapacho instrument never made it to La Conner as I dinged it in the final push before the show. It’s off for a top refinish, should be back this week.

This one is for sale. $7600
Though it’s been through one show so I would accept reasonable offers.

If it doesn’t sell before August I’ll likely bring it to The Vancouver International Guitar Festival.

Well, this Guitar was intended for the La Conner show in May. While burning the midnight oil I marred the finish bad enough that I had to have the top refinished. It’s back! The bridge is on and I’m ready to prep the fingerboard and fret it tomorrow. I’ll have this one with me at the Vancouver International Guitar Festival.

Today’s was a productive one in the shop despite the heat. I prepped the fingerboard and installed the frets for the Lapacho Guitar. The frets are still over hanging and not photo worthy. Here’s a couple shots of the prepped fingerboard.

I love that finger board. So much more interesting than blank ebony.

Final coat of osmo on the black neck for this Lapacho Guitar.
