“I just finished fitting the neck joint. Next is trimming the neck and working on the fretboard”

Geez, I haven't been on the forums much recently and I'm REALLY behind on this one! Congrats, Dustin - I'm really excited to see this come together as I am a YUGE Beneteau fan I've owned three over the years including two ex-Don Ross workhorses (he's a pal, lucky me). Marc has treated me so well over the years, including performing some out of warranty repair work on an OM I owned - he's a wonderful guy and surely one of the finest luthiers in Canada. Coincidentally, we've had a couple false starts on a build over the years, the last iteration of which was a long scale SJ in Alaskan Sitka with either Padouk, Honduran or Cocobolo. So yeah, I'm picking up what you're putting down I'm still hoping to get something going with him at some point. I recently thought it would be cool to have him build something similar spec-wise to the Lowden Pierre Bensusan sig (F size), which is a guitar I've coveted for a while.

PS - as you would expect, Don Ross' sunburst fan fret baritone and re-topped cedar/mahogany SJ are both pretty epic guitars. I haven't seen him in a while, but I'm looking forward to checking out the harp guitar and most recent fan fret in person!

oh man, I love the look of that wood. And I've heard some very find walnut guitars recorded in the past. I have two black walnut trees that are huge on my property, and I'm tempted to have one removed as it's very close to the house, and I'd have to keep some of it to have a one or two guitar made. I'd love to hear a recording once it's done.

enjoy!

Stuart

Thats awesome man! And I hear ya, I can't wait to catch a show with him playing the Sitka/Coco build, it looks and sounds incredible in studio recordings. I suspect this won't be my last commission with him...he's been great to work with and very patient with the plethora of questions/small changes I've thrown at him since the beginning of this build. Its currently curing so won't be but another month or two I suspect! (See pics below, this is after the first wash coat)

Beauty, Dustin! I like the walnut neck and have never seen Marc do that before. I might have missed it, but are you going with a longer scale?

Yes I am! 25.75. I played an African Blackwood/euro concert model of his that was long scale and when tuned down to C it still had incredible clarity, no floppiness. I honestly don't play a lot in tunings lower than DADGAD, but when the time comes I know I'll be covered, and unlike the Morris 25.74 scale I've played in the past, it didn't feel like the first position was noticeably further to my left (being right-handed). It felt just like my 25.4 scale Model M.

Looking forward to hearing sound clips of this beauty once it's received. Dustin, do you have an idea of what string brand and gauges you will using?
