My opinion on these is not a good one.
I purchased one a while ago and thought it
was a great tuner until i used it at a gig.
the ambient crowd noise and other players
in the band playing ( bass especially) just
drove the tuner nuts. It was unuseable in a live
situation. But at home on the couch it was the
best tuner if it's kind (clip on) i've ever used.
i sold it. you could buy quite a few snarks for
the price of one of these.

Thanks for posting Roy. IMO - They are very accurate, but they are very sensitive to ambient noise. I bought one during last year’s annual 20% off sale. The clip doesn’t open as wide as I’d like and the on/off button is poorly designed. I’m happy to hear they have addressed these design issues.

Good points. And I’ve heard the similar stuff from others who gig. I don’t...so it’s perfect for me. But on stage maybe other tuners could be better...even a good old Snark.

The StroboClip HD has no mic, so ambient noise makes no difference, it picks up vibration only.
Some comments above are referring to a previous version or the iStroboSoft app, the names are similar.

Tuning a guitar (esp. acoustic) on a loud stage or in front of a bass rig is not going to work well with any clip-on tuner, that's a job for a pedal or rack tuner.
By loud, I mean like a rock/pop band with bass and drums.

Stomp, not trying to pick a fight here, but I can confirm that my StroboClip HD is affected by other instruments playing close by, even just at an unamplified session/gig - I'm assuming because they make my guitar(s) vibrate sympathetically. So I try to tune when others aren't playing, or in a separate space or, if neither of those is possible, I use my TC PolyClip which is noticeably less sensitive to sympathetiv vibrations.

But in the house, or in quiet situations when I'm playing out (like solo gigs, for instance), the StroboClip HD is the 'best' tuner, AFAIC.

For amplified gigs with the band, I have a TC Polytune 2 Mini pedal-tuner on my pedal-board, which is superb.

The Usual Disclaimers apply....IMHO, YMMV, etc.

My Stroboclip has been working fine live. But then I don't try to use it when the bass and percussion are playing since I am playing too.

Looks like it’s an “Amazon Choice” and gets 4 out of 5 stars. So what’s the issue?

Apparently the buttons are hard to use and annoying according to the reviews.

How is the Polyclip compared to this? I have TC Polytune clip and I like it a lot, but this is slightly more accurate and has sweetened tunings, so I'm debating it. Do you notice any difference in accuracy between the two?

That was the complaint on an old version. Much better buttons on the current one.

Nevermind... I answered my own question by Googling and it seems, from most opinions, the Polyclip is just as good or better. Good.

Well, I've never used one, but those are the complaints from the new one on Amazon.

There is a new HD version. The one reviewed and pictured on Amazon is the "old" June 2017 HD version. Peterson is selling the new HD version. As for the complaints on Amazon? Sometimes you have to be smarter than the equipment you use.

Do you happen to know the difference or what they changed?

Thanks

Well sorry I took so long to respond - I was out all day, only just got back and saw your question. I'll answer it anyway.

The TC PolyTune Clip has only one tuning-type - equal temperament - if that suits you, it's absolutely fine, a great tuner. It's accurate, it's quick to respond to the note, the display is big, bright and clear. It works in either Polyphonic, Strobe, or Chromatic mode - user's choice. I find the Polyphonic mode pretty useless, but the Strobe and Chromatic modes are fine. Can be affected by other instruments playing close by.

The Peterson StroboClip HD has numerous 'sweetened' tunings which are great for different tunings and instruments. As well as GTR (equal temperament), the ACU sweetener is very good for capoed instruments - this is the 'James Taylor Tuning'. The tuner has only Strobe mode, if you don't get on with Strobe tuners, it's not for you. The display is big, bright **enough** (though not as distinct as the TC), and far more stable than the previous version. Prone to being affected by other instruments playing close by - more so than the TC, IME.

So...two excellent tuners, very accurate, but having some functions which are different. You can buy either with confidence that you've got a very good piece of kit, but as to which is 'best'...very subjective, and it's up to you to decide which features matter the most to you.

The usual disclaimers apply......IMHO, YMMV etc.
