And now he is able to have had input into the design a 3 single coil guitar made the way he likes it .........
Kinda makes a whole lotta sense to me .
As sure as the sun will rise, they're coming up with a signature Tonare Grand or whatever.

Just ask Tremonti when he asked them to make an LP

I had to google Tonare Grand
Perhaps you have inside info and with enough sunrises your assertion may be proven correct.

Call me naive but I just take Tremonti's explanation on the PRS web sight at face value

His MT 15 Signature PRS Amp sure looks interesting and at a little over a 10th the price of the J- Mod

Holly crap. It's like PRS has taken some pricing advice from Gibson. JM must have cut a pretty sweet deal.............

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...watt-tube-head
Plus 2 0f these to make a 100 watt stack https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...-cabinet-black

Only $8038.00

This is a bit of a lengthy review, but covers some good ground, including a little bit on the "controversy" and noting that unlike all the other numerous other guitar companies that do a Strat style guitar for some reason this PRS offering, has ignited some silly and negative nonsense on the internet.

I’m really liking everything about that guitar. I want one, I can’t stop myself from getting one.

But what color? Seriously, I can’t decide. Tungsten or black?

I’ll probably change my mind a dozen times before I pull out the credit card.

At that price I would sprain my wrist getting my wallet out so fast....

Better add another 0 and move the decimal point

Fixed. I didn't have enough fingers and toes available to do the math correctly.

Yep no question the PRS J-MOD is more expensive than any other amp in the PRS line by a wide margin ( not sure what Gibson has to with the pricing)
I am nowhere near knowledgeable enough to critically assess the value of the components used and build architecture vs the price, but if the rest of product line is any indication, it would not really seem to be significantly padded.

For example comparatively, for a top of the line Marshal head and double spk. stack you are going to be at $8k also

Also I would speculate that the annual production and sales numbers are probably so low that even if Mayer gets a spiff on each unit, I doubt it would amount to much more than a high end dinner and night on the town. What he no doubt does get, is just the amplification he wants for free

I'm a huge John Mayer fan and consider him (IMHO of course) the best guitar player of my generation.

I've also owned a PRS Custom 22 for the past 12-13 years so clearly I'm not a hater.

However to me the Silver Sky is an almost Strat body with the wrong headstock (which turns out to be ugly IMHO).

I would never consider buying this guitar.

JM played the red one in his Instagram post. 39 minutes, but well worth the time to watch. Some outstanding playing included. He played the red one and it did look sweet. I guess I’m thinking I’ll be Gilmour with the black “strat.”

To each their own for certain. Aesthetics are by nature almost entirely subjective but are totally valid..That said interestingly enough funny you should mention the headstock. Myself I find the Fender headstock to be the least attractive feature of the Fender line. So the one on this PSR guitar is simply another big plus . In the last video I posted I would have to say for me even the Suhr headstock is much more elegant than the Fender ......But these differences are a good thing and what makes the world go round.
