Default Sold - 1996 Santa Cruz D12 Norman Blake

Very good overall condition. Excellent playing condition. There is one decent ding in the top (shown in photo) and some light finish checking. I could not get the checking to show up in photos. There is also an area in the treble side on the neck where it joins the fingerboard where the finish has lifted. I never notice it when I’m playing.

OHSC. Drilled out end pin for pickup. I have an end pin jack I can install if you like.

Now $2,625

Now $2,700

$2,850 shipped PP friends.

Curious about the nut width and finger spacing at the saddle. Is the Norman Blake different than the normal D12 in regard to specs?

Thanks,

Frank

I wish your guitar would sell;-) A couple questions for you, since not very clear from the SC site. Still trying to figure out whether the “Norman Blake” is a model and dif than the D12, or he commissioned the SC D12 (SC site is not clear) and people are calling it the Blake D12. It looks like the stock D12 (designed originally for Blake) except it’s got the wider nut. Can you enlighten on this?

My other one is about tone .... I love 12-fretters, and my favorite was a D18vs ... also had a D28vs and a Collings DS1, but that D18 I should have kept. So being a SC fan also, I am curious if you have any thoughts about that comparison ... D18 12 fret compared to the D12? Besides the fact the original Martin dread inspired the D12.

As SC explained it to me, the older D12 (this is a 1996) are identical to what is now referred to as the Norman Blake. It was a bit of a loose explanation.

As for tone, I haven’t played this next to a 12 fret Martin but to me SC guitars sound “older” than Martins of the same age. If that makes any sense......

Of course, I will offer 72 hours to check out if it is to the buyers taste.

I can add, after owning a Collings DS1A and playing a couple of SCGC D12s, the SC D12 is not as deep and is easier for most to hold and play. And it is my opinion the SC is warmer, where the Collings tends to be brighter. This is a tempting mate to my SC D12 12 string. FWIW

I'm really surprised this guitar is still here. I had one, sold it. Missed it SO much, I had to replace it and bought one from Cigarfan. They are such versatile guitars. And the tone is incredibly rich. Plus, you can't find a better seller than John.

Great seller, great guitar, great price.

Why is this guitar still here?

Thanks NC. If I didn’t have that Edmonds 12 fret coming, I would never sell this.

Someone might be surprised if they put in an offer. Can’t hurt to ask. I don’t offend easily. :-)

Oh - come on now - thats an insane price for such an incredible guitar! I’ve just had to get my guitars valued so I can get them on my insurance, and its forced me to realize I have over a dozen Santa Cruzs in my collection, otherwise I wouldn’t think twice about this one. Someone should jump now, and the rest of you can put this on the list of ones you let slip away -
