Default Doyle Dykes emailed me!

I received an email from Doyle Dykes himself today! I saw Doyle in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, at the end of July while I was on vacation. It was a totally awesome experience. Anyway, I got my pic with him and my purple 612CE, gave his daughter one of my CD's, bought one of his CD's, and went back to the condo. When we got home from vacation, I checked out his website. A few weeks later, I was thumbing through the Taylor catalog, when I notice that on the page with the old record shop and the nerdy guy standing there, there is a poster for J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet stuck to the ceiling (just look and you will see it). Now, let me back-track:
In concert, Doyle talked about Donnie Sumner, who was J.D.'s nephew, and also a member of the Stamps. Doyle played with the Stamps, and knows them quite well. Donnie lived here in Marion, IL, 6 or 8 years ago, and my wife cut his hair.
Sooooo:
I emailed Doyle to tell him about the poster in the catalog, and about my wife knowing Donnie Sumner, who is Doyle's friend. Doyle's answer to me to today via email:

Dear Mark,
I appreciate your e-mail. Sorry for the delay. I'll have to check
out the Stamps Quartet poster! What an observant person you are! I don't think I would've ever come across that. Keep pickin'! Hope to see you again soon.

All the Best,
Doyle Dykes

Now, is this cool or what?! What a nice guy. If I could only play as well as he does........

That's coolness.

I agree. It certainly would be nice to play the guitar like Doyle, but maybe even better to be the type of human being he is.

Peace. Kevin

Thumbs up

You are lucky man ! Great experience and I hope I get to meet him someday. Wouldn't it be nice to play that well and have people more impressed with your character? He is a gem.

People say the same thing about Phil Keaggy, and it has personally been my experience with him, both in just meeting him several times and in doing a concert with him back in 1989.

Also agreed about Phil. Both Phil and Doyle are true guit-artists.

Default Emails

Doyle is great about returning emails. I met him at a clinic and then emailed him a week later to get some advice on my first Taylor purchase. He encouraged me to consider the 3xx's since I was relatively new player, but also mentioned that several friends who also lead worship liked the 514. At his clinic he played a 314 for his last number, and made it sound like a 914. Right then, I knew I was going to get a Taylor, and I had no reservations about getting a 3xx. He's simply a joy to watch. He's the kind of player that inspires you to practice and not give up.

[email protected]

It is at his site. It isn't like this is his private one.
If it will make you feel better, here is his home phone number...

Yes, you will have to hear it for the rest of your life.
Those of you who haven't seen the pics of the blessed event can click on my website link below, go to "Photos", then go to "Concert" photos. Phil is the short guy with 9.5 fingers.
