Congratulations!
Your new guitar looks incredible (the cutaway one is cool, too). I hope you still play it regularly despite the spectacular inlays. I own #1419, #1449 and #1509. For my money, the finest guitars in the world. |

Kudos!
Kudos on the guitar and the inlay! I think the world of Larry Robinson… His willingness to work hard and be creative, all for a very reasonable price! Everyone should someday have a Larry Robinson inlay!
I have two on Stephen Kinnaird projects:an ancient Kaori SJ (Maori warrior inlay) and the now-famous ‘RenOvation’ with the Robinson MC Esher rosette (The subject of a very long thread on here.) My ‘The Tree’ James Olson has plenty of natural bling. Again, Kudos on yours!!

Oh man, that’s as a good as guitars get...
But I still think I might prefer to own the Hi Fi system in the back! Love those Avantgarde Trios... |

Thanks all.
Larry’s skill is reminiscent of the great craftsmanship from Medici Florence. And he’s an absolutely lovely person to deal with. Jim’s craftsmanship obviously speaks for itself, but I own many guitars and none of them exceed Jim’s work. Rest assured that notwithstanding the inlays this guitar was built to play. I’ve been playing it since my fingers hurt in the first few days of ownership and it still feels surreal having it here. I’ll try and post some video over the weekend so you can get a sense of its voice. |

Can you share with us what direction you gave Larry regarding the inlay? Did you have something like this in mind or was it, hey fill up the fingerboard and make it outstanding? Just curious how this came to be.

It turned out that this wasn't suitable for Jim's build and so we were back to the drawing board on the design. After exploring some concepts, Larry wowed me with the design we ultimately chose, which he calls a "Super Larson Brothers". I was in part attracted to this because I have a 1923 Maurer (with laminated X braces) Larson that I am incredibly fond of, and after selecting the BRW back and sides with Jim I just felt that Larry's design would blend incredibly, and that the guitar could manage the intricacy, visual weight and colour pop. I was speaking to Larry earlier today and we are re-exploring a fairy themed fretboard for a Ryan build I have on the go. I feel that we are very, very lucky to live in a period where steel string guitar makers and artisans like Larry are at the height of their powers - and there is still availability of the precious materials required to build their instruments. |

Olson
Your audio gear in the background looks equally as impressive as your Olson guitars. Congratulations on the new guitar.

Wow, Alistair!! What an amazing work of art!!
Kudos on the audio reproduction devices, too. Question: who loves you more, your ears or your eyes? It seems that you enjoy spoiling them in equal measure!

Congratulations! What a beauty!
I love the Larsen vine. Absolutely spectacular! Jim did a build for me this year, too. I had Larry do a custom inlay for my fretboard- not nearly as elaborate as this, though.
