Default NGD string suggestions

Hi everyone,

Today I bought a used 2015 Taylor GS Mini, mahogany version. What a beautiful little guitar and it came with a fitted ES-Go pickup for a great price. The seller has recently restrung with medium gauge strings but I forgot to ask him what specific make they were. Any recommendations for what would sound great for my next restrung? I love the sound of this small guitar, certainly lives up to all the positive comments I read on this and other forums. I usually use Daddario or Martin mediums, what do you think of trying some light gauge strings?

As usual I have included some pictures, otherwise it didn't happen, right?

Regards,
Howard

This is no such thing as consensus on what strings sound best on what guitar. Strings are cheap. Buy a bunch of different sets and figure out what YOU like rather depending on someone else's preferences. If you limit yourself to just what you get in the responses in this thread, you'll likely miss out on something that really tickles your fancy.

If you play in alternate tunings. Stick with 13-56’s.
I found that my Mini didn’t care for Martin Lifespan 13-56’s
It didn’t take much to overdrive it into “muddiness”.

I played mine with 12-53’s generally. EJ16’s.
I occasionally I went down to 11-52’s.
The guitar didn’t seem to care.

I have a GS Mini Mahogany, and swap between EJ16s and Elixr Nanowebs.

Both sound great on the Taylor.

Wanna try JP strings on there, at some point...but that'll be quite awhile down the road.

Martin Retros seem to work well on hog guitars. You should try a set - lights or mediums will work on that guitar but the mediums will be a bit louder.

Whatever strings you try make sure you give 'em a fair shake. Say, a week or so to settle in and give you what they are designed for.

I'd been going back and forth between Elixir Nano Lights and HD Lights and D'Addario EXP16's for a while and then I just tried the JP PB New Mediums and I really like them a lot. about a third the price and so far holding up very well. Tone is great, feel is comfortably between the slickness of the Nano's and the coarseness of the EXP's and the New Mediums are kind of a hybrid like the HD Lights. Just a little over $6 a pack at AGF sponsor Shoreline with the AGF discount. I'll be ordering more.

Taylor guitars sound matchmade for Elixirs. I'd try the Elixir Polyweb 80-20 if you prefer a warm sound. I know most prefer Nanoweb PB strings but give the Polyweb a whirl. Taylor guitars sound very good with Polywebs. Caveat: I am not a fan of bright jangly fresh out of the packet uncoated string tone. No comments on Elixir and V-braced Taylors...

This!

Others' ears and hands aren't your ears and hands. Only you can decide what sounds and feels best to you.
