Default Unexpected NGD

I had my heart set on a Martin D-15M. Planned on getting it for Christmas. Today my wife talked me into a Walmart trip. While she was in shopping I stopped in the local music shop. Hanging on the wall was a beautiful new Taylor 320, drastically marked down. After the first couple open chord strums I was in love. I planned on paying some down for layaway, but my wife talked me into getting it now. Came with a nice Taylor hard case.

I like playing Taylors and listening to Martins. My wife bought me a D-15M, but it is tempting to trade for a Taylor 320.
Here is a YouTube comparison:

Congrats on your guitar, it is a beauty!
I had to have a neck reset on the Martin. It is mortise and tenon instead of dovetail.
Your bolt on Taylor will play a little easier and should you need a neck adjustment/reset it will be easier and less expensive.
Did the plain Jane Look of the Martin vs the more dressed look of the Taylor influence you?
Again congrats.

sloar,

Congratulations on your new dread. May you continue to draw enjoyment from it every day.

Since you didn't mention it, may I presume this is an X-braced instrument? My curiosity gets the better of me. Don't know if they made any V-braced ones before committing to the Grand Pacific. (My Taylors are all X-braced and each one still impresses me the moment I start playing it.)

Don

X- braced. To my ears they both sounded very similar, but the Taylor just felt better in my hands. 1.75” nut and a very comfortable neck. Several hundred dollars cheaper didn’t hurt. It’s a total joy to play.

SWEET! Taylor makes some gorgeous guitars. Congrats! I’m with you on preferring a 1.75” nut, though I’m cool with Gibson’s 1.725, too. Didn’t realize the D-15M had the old narrow nut. Since last year I thought all the Martin standards had the wider nuts. Enjoy that beauty!

The mahogany top and sapele b/s is a killer combo IMHO.

Congrats, you are going to have a lot of fun with that guitar. The hog-topped Taylors are terrific.
