Default A Very Non-TREE-ditional Edwinson C-000

Hi, everyone. I just finished up a new guitar build that is one of the most unusual ones I've made yet. I figured it might be fun to show it here, since it is a little off the beaten track. It's a ECS/SE Consort 000, with a whole bunch of one-off customizations and modifications from a typical iteration of this model. It was a challenging project, but it appears to have turned out well. All Tree Mahogany back, sides, and top, with Ebony trim and appointments, a new headstock design, a new pinless bridge, some 3-D embellishment around the fingerboard extension and rosette, new design dual side sound ports, new interior architecture, a new neck joint, a black neck...
And because the Tree Mahogany has such extravagant figure, my client, Charlie B., urged me to keep to spartan decorative theme throughout. This guitar has no extra bling; but it is still pretty over the top.

Here are some pics.

More detail shots and specs coming shortly. I've got a pizza in the oven that is almost overdue. Better get to it!

What a beautiful looking guitar. How about some sound files?

I don't think you are allowed to show pictures of that guitar and mention "Pizza in the oven" in the same post. I am actually drooling and I'm not sure why. I think I want both. Beautiful guitar! (How was the pizza?)

No Tree neck? Unacceptable

In all seriousness, Steve, I think you and Charlie were right to limit the decorative elements and let the figure speak for itself. The use of red purfling is very tasteful. And are those Charis tuning buttons? They look great on the Omega headstock. I do miss the talon bridge, though ... that's always been the aesthetic signature of your instruments (at least for me).

The pictures are stunning. My guess is that it plays and sounds as good as it looks!

Steve has shared some details of the build with me over the last few weeks. His client wanted a pinless bridge. That is his 1st pinless design.

What really blew me away was the cost of that wood. It would have taken a few years off my life to have taken a saw to that! I have never priced "the tree" mahogany before, but it ain't cheap folks! Holy moly!

Beautiful guitar Steve! Nice pics too!

I, of course, am awe-struck by that guitar.

It makes me imagine, though, a plain jane slope shouldered gibsonish
guitar with a J-35 shaped pinless bridge and that kind of headstock.

Thanks for all the comments, everyone. Time to post some more photos while I soak up some morning coffee. This guitar is going to be dropped off at the local FedEx office today. It's been quite an adventure...
I do want to say, this guitar is NOT as red as it appears in these photos. I use a Canon G15 camera, and even when the color bias is set on "Neutral", it tends to exaggerate the reds quite a bit.

Here's an early shot (taken with my iPhone)...

...and an even earlier one. (The inner sides are quartersawn African Bengi wood. It's actually pretty enough to be on the outside of the guitar. The outer sides were quite thin; you can see I didn't even try to get the saw marks out before bending. It was a bit of a tightrope walk, but everything came out great. The inlaid sound ports were a new idea too. We went through several designs before settling on this one, based on a steel fence that Charlie made. The inset pieces are Ebony, laminated to .020 black fiber material. They look delicate, but they are pretty tough.
