I set out to buy a Telecaster in 1980 but I came home with a Gretsch Committee. I did not know much about electric guitars at the time (still don't) but the Gretsch had a different sound that I preferred over the Telecaster. For playability, the Gretsch won out big for me. The neck shape is easier of my left hand and the body contour is easier on my right hand and arm. The guitar has suited my electric guitar needs (although few and not varied) for almost 40 years.

Adding in the case, strap, and a practice amp, the Gretsch saved me about $75.00 (a lot of cash back then).

I think I'll go play it some. Thanks for the reminder.

Telecaster for me.. I haven't played tons of different electrics, but everything I pick up and try I tend to not like as much as a Tele.

They're all in my signature....but since 2 are Teles and one is a Tele design...

Fender Telecaster. Born at the junction of form and function.

I have my two favorite American Fender Stratocasters that are at the top of my go-to electric collection. Both have Texas Special single-coil pickups and sound amazing. One is a recent American Special, candy apple red with a 70s style all-maple neck. The other is a 2002 American Deluxe, surf pearl with a MOP pickguard and 60s style neck with rosewood fingerboard.

I have a couple of Teles that I love, and a couple of Tyler Variax guitars for special sounds... but the Strat is where it's at!

Don't really play electric anymore.

Always was a big Gretsch fan.

But of the more common, classic models, probably (in order of preference) :

Telecaster
Les Paul
335
Strat

...though if I ever buy an electric again, which I may for recording, it'll be a Stratocaster.

I played mainly bass for years.

THE bass for me is a Fender Precision. Period.

I like the variety of the shapes and colors as well as the different feel and sounds between electric guitars. Choosing one would go against that like.

...but Telecaster.

Fender Baja Telecaster and a tweed Blues Junior. I have owned much more expensive guitars and amps, but I just fell in love with this combination. It is the electric tone that I have been chasing all my life, since first hearing the guitar solo on "Walkin Blues" from The Butterfield Blues Band on East-West.
