Default Acoustic Guitarists- what’s your favorite electric guitar?

Hello,

I’m wondering if primarily acoustic guitar players are drawn to any particular electric guitar models?

Thanks.

That's so hard to say. I have a couple Strats, a Tele, and Gibson and Chinese Les Paul and have a Epi 335 (though Gibson or The Heritage are nicer instruments). As a kid I had a Gretsch Country Gentleman and I think that was the nicest electric I've ever owned. When I go out play out these days my first choice would probably be my Chibson (yes, before my genuine Gibson) closely followed by my MIA Deluxe Strat or my Epi 335.

I have a strong connection with one piece maple neck & fretboard Telecasters played through a traditional Fender amp like a Princeton on clean setting, “Fender Clean” - extremely touch sensitive that requires “coaxing the velvet out”.

Good question!

I get a lot of pleasure out of having multiple acoustics, but in my electric playing days it was my Gibson Firebird and then my '62 reissue Strat. I've had the Strat since the 80s and I'm not gassing for anything else electric.

Strat, followed by PRS.
For me, it's all about the feel of the neck.

My Gibson ES-335 ... in spades!
It has an open, airy chimey warmth when the amp is set to a clean tone, but the combo can also generate a mean aggressive tone that scares my Les Paul.

My 335 is one of the best I, and reportedly several other 335 owners, have ever heard.
Of course the amp mated to it doesn't hurt a bit.
It's a Tone King Imperial MK II.

It's in my signature. Fender Stratocaster.

The first electric that impressed me was an old Gibson "Melody Maker - double cut, perhaps single pup.
I was auditioning for the drummers' seat for the John Dummer Blues Band and I got to pay his (?) guitar. It was a dream.

I once bought myself a Telecaster because I always thought it was the perfect shape for a slab of wood with holes for electrics.

I did what many of us might have done and stood in front of a mirror with it on. It wasn't the guitar - it was me. I sold it.
The one electrified guitar that I bought that I loved was an Eastman AR805e (non cut, Kent Armstrong floating pick up. It sounded great acoustically and plugged in, but it looked to me like an electric guitar so I traded it for my Waterloo and instantly missed it.

I bought a fully acoustic Ar805 recently.

For me it's no so much the guitar as it is the setup. My acoustics have 12-53 or 12-54 strings. My electric guitars are all set up with 12-52 strings and I don't have any intonation/tuning problems like many people have when they are mainly acoustic players playing electric.

That said, I prefer my highly modded Yamaha Pacifica 012 with its scale length similar to my acoustics. I installed the same width nut on it as most of my acoustic guitars.

I have a Reverend Double Agent OG... after owning strats, teles, and even a Gretsch Tennessee Rose.

The reverend does it all. It is my only electric now, has a perfect setup, is versatile as heck, and for not a ton of coin.

Default Acoustic Guitarists- what’s your favorite electric guitar?

My guitar store guy thinks people that play primarily acoustics are drawn to telecasters if they decide to branch out to electrics. Can’t say whether it’s true generally, but I guess it was for me.

On the left, my 1969 Stratocaster that I have had since 1970.

On the right, my Don Grosh Retro Classic Vintage T. One of the finest electric guitars I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

In the middle, a 1964 Fender Deluxe Amplifier.

Don't get much better.......

I have gone through a ton of electric guitars over the years. The 345 (basically a 335 with stereo) in my signature is the only one that made all the cuts. It can do it all. But I had a Gibson 175 that I often regret selling.

I started out on electrics, and quickly realized that PRS was the builder for me. Can't beat the build quality and consistency, one for one. At one time, I had 7 of them in the arsenal.

I saved my favorite 2, and migrated towards the wonderful world of acoustics.
