I own more than a couple. More than three, even.

I own far more than I need, but maintain a comfortable “guitar budget.” I have my favorites that get played very often (some daily), and others that get played much less frequently (perhaps weekly.) However, I don’t feel pressure or a desire to own a certain number. I enjoy the variety. And if I enjoy playing them — they stay. There are times the rotation changes too.

I have 10 acoustics and one electric which is 2 over closet capacity. For most of my life, I had 2 - a six string and a twelve string which seems logical. Not sure how I got to 10. I am thinking about selling 3. But then again, there is something to be said for an even dozen!

Default Re: How Many?

I will only admit to two facts:

1. I had to upgrade MS Office specifically for Excel to list them all with serial numbers, et al. It's a stupid big number but my acquisition demons and I are on a solid basis.

2. I bought a Taylor last year and it arrived in the midst of a move, so I hardly got to play it and it ended up out of the rotation. I was ruminating a month or so ago as to why I did not have a sunburst Taylor. While doing my inventory for the spreadsheet I opened up the case and lo and behold, here is a sunburst Taylor! I was like a kid on Christmas morning! If this is how it will be when my mind starts to slip, at least I expect to be grinning a lot

I have five, if you include basses:
  1. 2018 Seagull S6 Original Slim (my only acoustic... for now)
  2. Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster (my only other guitar)
  3. 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 bass (my baby, purchased in 1980)
  4. 2006 Lakland Skyline Hollowbody bass (soon on the block to fund another acoustic)
  5. 2015 Squier Vintage Modified PJ Bass (nice and cheap for the jams I no longer attend - probably going on the block too).

For 25 years I had but one- my old Alvarez.

Then I "went electric," started a band, and had as many as 8 acoustics and 3 electrics at the same time.

Then I retired from the band and downsized. Then I downsized some more when preparing to move.

I now have 4 acoustics and one Telecaster and a Blues Jr. amp.

Seems to be a good number for me right now.

Three, for the moment, although I still may have to sell my harp guitar because of economics. And then there's the "bun in the oven" guitar that I purchased today because of the expected loss of the harp guitar. But now when I play that harp guitar it sounds just so darn good how could I possibly sell it. (At least that's the argument I try with my wife... she just rolls her eyes.)

I had 10 at one time, started working that number down a couple of years ago. I'm down to 3 right now, just sold my Yamaha A3CM last week.

I'm going to start auditioning my retirement guitar this summer. Probably make a trip to Nashville or someplace else where I can find lots of higher end stuff to try out. Once I buy that one I'll probably be done.

I said probably

I have nine acoustics (though two or three are for sale), two electrics, two ukuleles, and a 1937 A style mandolin.

I also have two acoustic amps and one electric amp.

Five guitars which includes a lap steel I had made for me which never gets played.

My only acoustic is a Martin DM Mahogany Dreadnought and I also own a Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster and a Samick Greg Bennet Royal semi.

I donated 2 to my local High School last week so logically that gives me room for 3 more.

Personally, I am at maximum capacity of three - all are listed in my signature below. The reality is that I could happily get by with just the E6D. I have been thinking that I need to trade to the J15 for a J35. I love the tone of the J15, but I need/want a bit deeper neck profile. I can also see selling the Larrivee to buy an E20D-TC when those hit the market again. I dunno...

My wife also has three: Eastman AJ816 and AJ817-12 and a Pogreba single cone. Our sons each have a Seagull Entourage.
