Obviously I wold not buy anything from them - as there are plenty of places , well less than there was, that sell gibson guitars in the UK., but the search facility is inoperative on their site.
I wonder if they only show items that they are shipping to UK?

I suspect that if the Web server determines your location is NOT one they can sell to or ship to, it won't show you products that will just annoy you when you can't complete the sale. That would generate a lot of customer service calls , which they wouldn't need.

Did you try Musician's Friend? Same company and their website is easier to navigate.

Have I missed something?

I bought an amazing Gibson J-45 from GC last year.

I just searched GC website just now for "J45" and came back with 52 guitars.

I'm not at all sure that I would be happy buying a personal thing like an acoustic guitar from a box shifting organisation with a website that only shows you what they want to sell and refuses to allow specific searches.

Have I missed something?

Perhaps some fiber in your diet?

Seriously, I think you might be generalizing just a wee bit.
I had no trouble finding J45's on the GC website either. I must confess I've never been to England so I have no knowledge of your guitar stores. I will say I'm delighted at the abundance of choices we have, not to mention the very competitive pricing. The "Big Box" stores are not all good or all bad, just like anything else.

I never bother with search boxes on websites. They all suck. The other day, I typed the description of a coat hanger rack into the search box on the Home Depot website, as specific as you can possibly get: "coat hanger rack style Liberty" and got more than two-thousand hits, with the first being for a hard hat. None of the results showed the actual coat hanger I was looking for.

I google everything, and it gets me to the right place 99.9% of the time.

No, of course it isn't. I'm not buying, certainly not a Gibson, but as someone mentioned buying a used non vintage Gibson I thought I'd see what they sell for in the US.

Thankfully we don't have corporate guitar dealers like GC in the UK, but I simply find it interesting that it is impossible to find any way for their website to access a simple search for a Gibson j45 ... or anything.

Silly, as several others have suggested. Consider they are not allowed to sell some products overseas. If you give me your credit card number, I'll be happy to order whatever you want and you can pick it up the next time your in Connecticut.

You could have easily found out the prices used Gibson non-vintage J45's sell for by going on to Reverb.com or Ebay.
I guess I don't understand why you would be looking at GC for used.
Anyway if it helps, Reverb indicates a range of around $1100- $1900.
I find most listings to be in the $1400-$1900 range.
My guess is that in very good condition they are probably going for $1600-$1700.
Hope this helps.

Once again... it's because you're in the UK. If you want, get a VPN and change your location to the US. You'll easily find them on GC.

I just got back from a week in Europe. While in london, I was restricted from accessing MF or GC web pages that I have bookmarked.

I check their daily deals but couldn't connect.

I don't remember the message but it was something about me digital data restriction regulations.

Same thing happens to me (here in the uk). It seems to be some European edict that has resulted in the erection of a barrier, but I couldn't be bothered to read the reams of guff that purported to explain it all.

It's the new and onerous (to the web site manager) laws about data privacy in the UK and maybe the whole EU. It is far easier to block access from your country than to have to comply with the new regulations - or risk substantial penalties and fines.
