Power outage benefits!
Lost power in Orange Co. NY for three days, many people mad! After the initial bumming out, got to cook a lot on the grill, spend time with the wife while playing a whole lot of guitar. Even started sounding better. Lucky it wasn't February!

Well. Not me, thanks. I have a standby 12KW back up generator at my house specifically to avoid those power outage “benefits”

We live out in the country and have for the last 40 years. 30 years ago when our youngest daughter was 7 years old, we had a power outage one evening. It was winter, raining, cold and damp. We had the big wood stove going and lanterns and candles all over the place, and I pulled out my old '67 Martin D-35 and we sang old folks songs I knew from memory around the wood stove for a couple of hours.
Later that night the power was restored and the next day all the kids were back in school, as usual. When our youngest daughter got home, she said, "Can we pretend there is a power outage like the one we had last night and do that all again?" It was pretty cool to hear that! - Glenn

Sounds like something you could make a weekly habit of.

After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, we had no power for one month with daytime temps in the 90’s for pretty much the entire time. It was surreal to say the least.
