Default String thoughts?

Just bought a 50+ year old Goya G-20.
I haven't owned a nylon string since the mid-60's, so I'm not exactly up to speed on which strings are now players' favorites.

Any thoughts out there?

DiAddario EJ45s, pretty standard stuff that play well consistently and last for a good amount of time at a good price.

I've been using Savarez Alliance HT 540J for quite a while now. I've tried other brands, but I keep going back to Savarez..

I personal would try carbon or titanium strings.Brighter than normal nylon and can give a lift in tone and volume.

Amen to the Savarez. I use high strength. Tone is terrific.

I would be wary of trying modern high tension strings with a 50+ year old guitar unless you know it can take it. Might want to stick with more traditional true nylon strings and low tension.

I've used a lot of different brands and keep going back to D'addrio EJ45 composites (normal tension) Sound great and last quite a while.
I also like the fact that you KNOW they are going to be fresh/untarnished because of the packaging....

All I would offer is that every classical I've owned has seemed to "like" different kinds of strings, and I was only able to figure it out by trying different sets and tensions. Then you throw in the state of your nails, your RH technique, and probably some other variables I'm leaving out, and it gets a bit more complicated.

+1, dwalton hit the nail right on the head. There are lots of variables when it comes to classical/nylon strings. My Robert Garcia Fleta cedar/EIR sounds fantastic with Savarez Cantiga basses, New Cristal second and first strings, and an Alliance 543J third string.

La Bella 850B-HT.

High tension strings with carbon black trebles and bronze-wound basses. Excellent sounding, long-lasting (much longer than traditional silverplated copper) and very reasonably priced. Personally I think they play and sound better than Savarez Alliance - at 1/3 of the price.
