For me — a child of the 80s, a teen of the 90s, and someone who started playing guitar at the start of the 2000s (and didn’t get an electric guitar until the end of the decade), five albums that have impacted the way I listen to and play electric guitar, in order of when they were released:

U2 — The Joshua Tree
While I don’t necessarily play like The Edge, his use of delay and reverb and sonic space on this album remains highly influential for me

Weezer — Weezer
Three words. Only. In. Dreams. The rest of the album is classic too, but the build of the two guitars in the album’s final track is epic

Radiohead — OK Computer
So many great guitar tones and pieces, from the opening riff of “Airbag” all the way through to the solos in “The Tourist”

Coldplay — Parachutes
I dislike what this band has become but still adore their first two albums, especially the sound and style of Jonny Buckland’s electric guitar work

Death Cab for Cutie — Transatlanticism
The interplay of Ben Gibbard’s and Chris Walla’s indie electric guitar stylings at its finest — and even better the two times I saw them live

I don't play electric, but sometimes I lurk here to see what you guys are up to

Great thread, I'm on board with all the Metheny, Garcia, Allman Bros. and Beck posters.

I'll add 3 more live albums that I really liked to crank up back in the day.

Lou Reed, Rock and Roll Animal. The "intro/sweet jane" opener was killer. I had to look up who played guitar on that record--I believe it was Steve Hunter.

Nils Lofgren, Night After Night. That boy could wail. Distinctive hybrid picking style with a thumb pick and a lot of harmonics in his extended solos.

Little Feat, Waiting for Columbus. They were an incredibly tight band on stage, the rhythm section was one of my favorites. Lowell George was one of a kind and Paul Barrerre was no slouch, either.

Any Iron Maiden or Metallica fans? They've influenced countless guitarists, including myself. Iron Maiden is the reason why I picked up guitar in the 80s. Those harmony solos were (and are) amazing.

The live Sweet Jane intro is Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter. The producer for the record was Steve Katz, the Blues Project/Blood Sweat and Tears guitarist.

Great example of two lead lines twining together isn't it.

Maiden, yes. Metallica, just the first 3 albums. The Black Album had a few good moments.

I also include Justice for All so for me the first 4 album. We played "One" when that album came out in our very untalented band but it was so much fun.

I was essentially into acoustic, but Duane Eddy, the Ventures and Jörgen Ingmann got my attention.
