When I was looking to replace my old Sony CD player, it came down to another Sony or an Onkyo.
I spent the money and bought the Onkyo, thinking it would be an upgrade. But I was wrong. It sounds nice, but the various buttons are tiny and hard to see. And it seems to take a long time to start playing when I hit "play." Wish I had stuck with Sony.

Not unless they don’t have an aux input.

The one option that doesn't make sense is putting an amplifier in front of powered speakers. There's a good change of "letting out the smoke" from the speakers. Once you let out the smoke, things don't tend to work well again. Bob

I still have one laptop that has an optical drive for playing the disk media. Many years ago I went through an entire suitcase full of CD's and copied the files to a flash drive. So nice to create a playlist and have hours of entertainment.

My Yamaha CD S300 has been great, but I rarely use it now that I’ve gone to hi-res streaming. By the way, I think it’s been replaced by the CD S303.
