When I was looking to replace my old Sony CD player, it came down to another Sony or an Onkyo.

I spent the money and bought the Onkyo, thinking it would be an upgrade.

But I was wrong. It sounds nice, but the various buttons are tiny and hard to see. And it seems to take a long time to start playing when I hit "play."

Wish I had stuck with Sony.

Not unless they don’t have an aux input.

If your speakers have alternate inputs you can use those. if not, you can plug and play. The other options are a multi-input preamp or a small inexpensive mixer to put between multiple inputs and the speakers.

The one option that doesn't make sense is putting an amplifier in front of powered speakers. There's a good change of "letting out the smoke" from the speakers. Once you let out the smoke, things don't tend to work well again.

I still have one laptop that has an optical drive for playing the disk media. Many years ago I went through an entire suitcase full of CD's and copied the files to a flash drive. So nice to create a playlist and have hours of entertainment.

My Yamaha CD S300 has been great, but I rarely use it now that I’ve gone to hi-res streaming. By the way, I think it’s been replaced by the CD S303.
