Ah yes, now I remember…thanks for the report boombox. The older I get, and the more lacquer fumes I’m around, I find myself forgetting…uhh, forgetting…uhh……whatever we were talking about?
Anyway, yes your guitar was built as the first of many, and bought by a local guitar instructor. And no, the bindings are not Purpleheart. We did do one like that for Trevor of TAMCO fame. Mahogany and the FS chassis just work well together. And a reminder to the curious, Purpleheart looks good against mahogany.

Thanks Dave for the kind words! Love from other builders is particularly gratifying. Deeply appreciated.

Well after the back was put on, we had to do some work to close the box up. Unfortunately, this means grinding a spherical curvature into the top lining which involves some sweat.

A shot of the interior with the back.

And then after everything has been fit, pockets routed, and label in.

And finally like luthiers around the wood vendor, we clamp the top on and close the box.

Thanks.

Smile Like guitarists around the Luthiers…

“And finally like luthiers around the wood vendor, we clamp the top on and close the box.”

Here’s some shots of the neck construction.

I made the fretboard, Ebony bound in Indian rosewood, and then sanded a 16” radius into it.

To match the body, we thought this Honduran rosewood head plate would work.

Then here’s what it looks like after the peghead has been shaped, purfled, and bound.

Then once all the parts are ready, we glue on the fretboard to make a very chunky neck.

Thanks!

Progress is moving along steadily on this guitar. Here’s some more pics.

The box closed and to shape:

Then Steve routing the body for binding and purfling.

Gluing on purfling with “purfling only” tape.

And gluing on binding with “binding only” tape.

Thanks.

Here’s a couple of final shots for now on the build. This guitar is going to eat some turkey this week and then have a little vacation while all the finish is put on. Thanks for following along!

A couple of miters for the cutaway.

Making sure everything is lined up just right.

That is such a beautiful, classic build. Those purfling miters too...very nice! Well done!

I love your close up miter photo including the grain pattern of the Honduran Rosewood. Can't wait to see how the figuring will look after the finish is put on!

While the body is being finished there’s just a little more work left on the neck to do before it gets its lacquer coats.

Thanks.

Happy New Year to all…a little bit late I realize. But these pics just arrived which puts me in a rather celebratory mood! Sealer/pore fill is complete, and first coat of clear is applied.

Very nice.
I see the JK on the fingerboard but really I cannot, in good conscience, take all the credit for this guitar.
