I wrote a tune called "Song for My Mother" when I was about 20. I had only been playing guitar for a few years. It's not a very good tune actually, but it's kinda angular and odd, with 3 bar phrases and chords that make little sense some times, and my mom really liked it a lot, and still does. I don't think I could write another tune like it, ever, so it was neat, in the sense that it just sorta came from another place, or something. so I like it for all of that. this is a recording of me playing it, a really long time ago, so take it easy on the youngster.

This one is my favorite self-penned songs. Titled "Leavin' Today"

here's a verse:
If I said I could see that she'd be leavin' me I'd be lyin'
With suitcase in hand she's walkin' right out the door
There ain't enough beer to wash away tears I'll be cryin'
When I'm lyin' in bed without her head on my pillow no more.

and the chorus:
She said "don't ask me now, I got no time for talkin"
Tell you the truth, I just don't have nothin' to say
I told you before that one day I'd be walkin'
Well I've packed up my bag and I'm leavin' today"

I've been liking this one lately, called Six Years. I like story telling I guess. I don't think it's one of my best or one of my worst. I had fun playing a highstring part on it too.http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_2473000

My favorite is one I wrote for my wife. Very simple, no bridge and a simple 3 cord structure. "If I Had an Angel".

Okay, here's one I'm proud to have co-written.

I wrote the lyrics and played the bass, drums and did all the vocals. My partner wrote the music and played the guitar parts.

Brad Athey (who has played with Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans, and Pam Tillis) did the fiddle parts.

It's called "Life Gets In The Way"

(Third song down)

Enjoy!

I think my favourite is "Trying To Build Some Luck" which is all about the battle between ego and society telling us to just get a career...

But, truth be told, I don't like any of my songs that much...

OK...I'll bite. Here's one of my instrumentals from my first CD "Second Wind." This one was used on the TV show Smallville.

Me too KC.....

This is one I wrote a few years back during a very odd, difficult situation with a lady (that I wasn't even "involved" with??)

This one is called Sara's Peace....

This one seems to have left a mark on me all my others haven't. Kinda dark and a departure from my normal fluff about things love related.

I like my song named "Happy" the best. It was written with some good life sentiments that many people who have heard it really respond to.

"Everything's Perfect" A cheery song about dying. A few thousand hits on youtube, not the most popular one there, but I think it's the best written of mine. Only 3 dislikes!

lyrics in the info section.

"I Didn't Know She Was Your Aunt". A song I wrote in honor of the "cougar" who hit on me right in front of my wife. That woman is lucky she didn't get her butt whipped that night.

"Don't Put Your Cold Feet On Me". Dedicated to my wife.

"Deborah's Lament"- An instrumental I wrote on mandolin.

In 1965 I wrote "Where Have All The People Gone?" The words are incredibly bad, but both my son and daughter (now in their 30s) love the melody.

Also "The Starter's Song", a take off of "Turn The Page", though I rarely play it anymore. Even for myself.

Here's one of my favorite acoustic style ones.
Never coming back this way. Carter picking style.

https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D168806_6645911_06059

Well I'm going to the end on this old freight train. I'm never coming back this way. You can write me all you want, but don't waste your time. You'll never see me again.

Oh theres fear in your eyes but it's covered in disguise by the smile that you wear upon your face. But I know it's not real and your better off to feel than to drive yourself crazy in your mind.

And when all seems lost what's the gain and what's the cost, your lying to yourself it's ok. But the memory of my face is your only saving grace, for I only exist in your mind.

Ch:
I never know if I'll come or if I'll go, rambling is the only thing I know. Maybe in some distant land, I'll take your hand and we'll fly together to the sun

Oh it may seem cold but I'm growing old, I got no time for the pain.
It may have seemed real but it depends on how you feel about a sociopathic man with no soul

So I'm going down the tracks with a monkey on my back and I don't think she'll let me go. All is lost nothing gained but the song remains the same about a scorned woman couldn't let go.

Ch:
I never know if I'll come or if I'll go, rambling is the only thing I know. Maybe in some distant land, I'll take your hand
and we'll fly together to the sun
