Default British Columbia rain/floods

I think we have some members there?

Probably have more important things to do just at the moment than check in to AGF, but I hope they (and everyone else up there) are getting through it okay.

I've been following it on the news. I hope they're all safe and the store shelves replenish. The military is being deployed to assist now.

It has been quite a year for weather here:
Heat Dome, wildfires, tornado, now floods. (locusts next?)

I live 40 minutes east of one of the flooded towns, lots of displaced people in my city. But the damage to the highways and low lying cities is unbelievable. Will take months to recover.

My best wishes.

I forever think differently about these events after our home was under freak weather and in a flooded area in 2018. I don't even know how to express the concern except to say remembering when one of our kids was stranded in it and all the work and expense that followed.

My other hope is that areas have the sagacity my city did. We quickly passed a referendum for a 5 year surcharge on our water/sewer bills to fix and fortify. On our own we did not carry on the common stupidity to rebuild wrong and think hope and prayers would do anything.

Think about your home no matter where you live because these storms that dump a lot of water in a hurry impact properties you'd think would be safe.

months and months and months. The Coquihalla hwy is messed up big time. I must admit I am shocked by how much was destroyed. The engineering alone to create new stable support will take months. And remember the Coquihalla gets some of the heaviest snow in the world. Up to 4 meters (~ 160 inches) of snow. Not great for that kind of work. Months and months.

Here on Vancouver Island, we’re relatively unscathed, but panic buying in some areas has been problematic.
Supply chain challenges will certainly be felt, as Vancouver is Canadas largest container port, and with major highways and rail links severed.
The army has been deployed to assist in reconstruction.

Thanks for your concern.

On Tuesday we moved from Bellingham WA to Blaine WA.

Our move was complicated by the closure of Interstate 5 ,the primary north- south route from Seattle to Vancouver BC.

Any lowland area along this highway has been swamped.

Luckily, both our previous and current homes are on higher elevations.

IMO the extreme weather patterns we experienced this year are an ominous sign of events to come.

I live in Blaine, Wa. too. Our living room floor seemed to have gotten wet from the bottom up and has so far buckled the wood flooring. So eventually it'll have to be replaced. I live near Dakota Creek and for the first time in our 46 years living here; it's the highest it's ever been. Lots of damage to roads and rivers are cresting causing some havoc to bridges. Heard tonight there are 63 roads and bridges closed due to possible flooding and washouts. We're lucky compared to the flooding just east of us in Whatcom County.
