Basically just play what sounds good, what other reason would there be for playing guitar?

Cool open chords can be found up the neck.....I love taking cowboy chord songs and figuring how to make em my own up the neck.

I paid for the whole neck and all of the notes on the neck, so I use the whole neck and all of the notes on the neck.

On electric I spend tons of time up the neck, more past the 7th fret than not. On acoustic, I get up there often enough, but not what I’d call frequently. I went with occasionally. Maybe more like regularly, somewhere between occasionally and frequently...

I'm not a writer so I'm often playing the work of others. One of my favourite songwriters and guitarists is Ian Anderson (late of Jethro Tull), who frequently capos around the fifth to seventh. Here's one of his I'm especially fond of:

I regularly play up the neck. Solos, different chord voices, and just because we my reasons. I didn't buy a cutaway for the looks alone. I use the upper register.

Does putting a capo on the 7th and playing cowboy chords count. *
And why would you want to play above the 7th fret anyway? That's where I hang my washing! As for cutaways, well, lets just not even go there * I actually do have one song in my set where I do capo at the 7th. And one song from the 6th fret capo, and one from the 5th, quite a few from the 4th, loads from the 3rd, even more from the second, and even a couple with first fret capo. In fact, I think I only play two songs from the nut at present

This is it for me as well. So I spend a fair amount of time up there. Never tracked how much, though.

Wasn't it Chet Atkins who once said, "There ain't no money above the 5th fret."

I am up at the 14th fret every time I play the intro to Wanted Dead or Alive. I am also above the 7th fret neighborhood when playing the lead to Folsom Prison Blues.
And you can't forget the intro to Freebird.

I do most every time I sit down to play because my warmup is to go through the the first and second minor pentatonic scales from E to E. But I also do it because my teacher said not to be afraid to go up there, it is fun. And he was right, it is. I'm up there playing around with it enough that I was moved to buy a cutaway just to facilitate playing up there. Something I thought I would never want as I don't particularly like the look of them. But one grows I guess. My teacher just last night helped me figure out the intro to a song by the Skatalites that starts on the 14th.
