Default Bill Wise Side-Bending Soft Cutaway Machine

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGfH...=charisguitars

Has anyone ever tried to make something quite like this? I am so dumb when it comes to mechanical engineering design, I have no idea where to begin. But I love how simple it is to use, and how consistent the results would be. Has anyone else made something similar, or have a less involved jig for soft cutaways they might like to share?

Bill is a brilliant engineer.

I'm always in awe when I visit his shop.

His Dad is pretty handy too!!

One of these days I’ll get my hands on a Charis to try out.

That is really awesome - it reminds me a bit of this gravity bender I saw recently:

Which I plan on attempting at some point in the future.

Wow I've never seen one like that. It's really interesting.

I think Bill's machine looks awesome but I do wonder how longer the heat blanket survives with all tension. I'm assuming it's sandwiched in between the paper and the outer metal plates but would surely get stretched

I hadn't either, the only thing that seems potentially problematic is that either your sides always need to be the same thickness, or you'd need some way to adjust the waist and cutaway cauls a little.
