She was such a force for so long...in a way, it's hard to believe that she wouldn't always be a force.

Praying she has an gentle transition...

What a powerful voice! I get goose bumps when she sings.
I'll be playing her music and keeping her in my thoughts.

It's art and who can really rank such things, but yes, one of the best singers I've ever heard. In my early days I tried (unsuccessfully) to imitate her melisma and vibrato on electric guitar. So many singers from a gospel background like hers over-do those techniques, but Franklin uses them with such taste and impact that she can knock me over with one word.

So, sad news.
