Default I cried for the 1st time in 60+ years today!

I honestly don’t recall the last time I actually cried. It’s gotta be over 60 years. No joke. Funerals, deaths, sickness, divorces brought no tears to my eye. No sir. Not me! Today, though, I cried like a baby. A complete mess of tears and profound pain, I was. But, you know what, it felt good and a complete relief.

See, today we had to put down our best little furry friend of 17+ years - our awesome Himalayan cat. He was a real character and provider of daily fun, joy and Love. He was always a hoot, a crazy little guy with lots of attitude but, never ever a dull moment with him around. He called the shots. He had me wrapped around his little paw. But I loved the relationship we had. So tight! Cuddles and purrs daily, wrestling matches nightly, etc. He’d sit by the lake hours on end watching loons and boats go by. Chase mice and chippies catch the odd ones and proudly bring it to us. gross!). Go next door and visit their rutweiler (they were tight!). Always “on”, curious and enjoying his life with us.

But lately, he was frail, kind of lifeless and “done”. It was time. He said nothing on the 30 minute ride to the vet. Did nothing when needled. No sound when the vet shaved his little paw looking for a vane and just closed his eyes when the doc injected him. It’s like he new his time was up. It was fast. A few minutes and he was gone. That’s when I completely, and totally lost it. So did my wife. Babbling “parents” of a fun, loving, beautiful and crazy cat. Go figure! He is being cremated and we already have a choice place for him in our house. He knows, too, that he will always have a special place in our hearts. We LOVED that little guy to no end. He loved us equally in return.

Sounds just weird and crazy for you guys who never had a pet, I know, but for those who do/did, you know what i’m talkin’bout. Our friend here tnfiddler sure knows the feeling having just lost his dog. It’s something special and very unique.

Anyway, sorry for the long rant but I had to get it out.

Thanks for listening.

I feel your pain. Been there. Love is a 4-pawed word sometimes.

Hey, it's ok to cry, you lost a great companion.
We don't have any animals now, but we have had. We understand.

That's the burden of having a pet, odds are you outlive them several times over.

I've had to euthanize a few, it NEVER gets easier.

Peace, friend.

Been there before many times. I'll feel the same way when the next one goes.
Crying just shows your heart and how much you care. Your pet knows you gave them a good life.

I too have been there many times, and understand what you’re going through.
Your sorrow is fully justified. They are family. Best to you in the days ahead.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I too am an extreme animal person.
I didn't shed a tear when my mom/dad/2 brothers died.

But when my beloved parrot died I was inconsolable.

I have no words.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, our furry friends can really take a piece of our heart when they are gone. This past weekend I buried our Lynx Point Siamese up at the cottage who we also had to have euthanized. After 17 years he also had wormed his way deep into our life, but it was time. He now runs free with all our other cat friends up at the cottage up in your neck of the woods. We're up on Hurds Lake just outside of Renfrew. May their spirits find peace and comfort as they wander free in the forest.

Sorry for your loss. My dog is 15 and she’s showing signs that her turn is coming soon (loss of appetite, soiling herself etc.) it’s quite heartbreaking. Deepest condolences.

I’m really sorry to hear that, I’ve been through the putting down of loved pets several times. Sometimes you’re just sad, sometimes it’s just relief, but there’s been a few in my life that just reduced me to moccasins and left a huge hole in my life.

It’s funny how close that bond can be on certain animals.

Those among us that have pets accept the pain of losing them as the price we pay for all the love and joy we get to share w/them...so sorry for the loss...first time I ever saw my dad cry was when we had to put one of his dogs down not long after my mom passed...it still pangs my heart to recall that moment...

Been there myself. Twice. Last year and 17 years before that.

Think of it like this: it's the last good thing you can do for your buddy.

Condolences.
