I was going to mention this in my original post. I am always amazed at how long it can take for the audience to recognise the song even though they are fans of the artist.

I will add point 3 to your list as - being a musician means you are more in tune with the structure of the song (notes, chord progression etc) even if you have never tried to play it.

big factor in this can be if you "have the crowd"

Louder is always better so its hard to compete with a full band (if they were just on)
