That is a special color. In the immortal words of Chevy Chase "III LIKE IT!".

That is lovely. Not quite as ‘in your face’ as the standard green - very classy indeed.

I like it! Your shots in natural light represent the color better than the Emerald glamour shots. Makes me wonder what all the color offerings look like with the silver weave layup.

About that scale change, and other untoward events.

Emerald has been going through an incredible period of growth. I believe that as volume increases mistakes emerge. Look at some of the auto recalls and you can see that mass production can also lead to all sorts of unintended consequences.

Such consequences as loose wires, imperfect weave, and diminished scale. Those can be responded to in a number of ways. Returns are an immediate response. Pleasant surprise is also a possibility, a shorter than ordered scale can be disheartening or pleasantly surprising.

I received a reply from Emerald today about the scale length. On closer inspection it was in fact only 6 mm shorter.

Quote:
I was discussing the issue with Alistair this morning and he explained to me that he had a customised jig for this particular job and said thats why the scale is 664mm, he said that will work perfect for your guitar, I hope this explains it for you?
Yep, that works for me. I guess Alistair's concern was the string tension which would have become too high with a 670mm scale and 14-59 strings. Now, with the 664mm scale the tension feels pretty much standard (if there is such a thing).

I may still try that 13-56 Elixir set though. If they sound as powerful I prefer to make it a little easier on myself.

Today I put the 13-56 Elixir phosphor bronze strings on. I knew this guitar could sound even better and it does!

I never liked D'addarios anyway but the 14-59 set which I replaced had an annoying tone difference between strings.
With these Elixirs the tone is much more balanced. The lighter gauge still works fine and if the guitar previously played like butter it now plays like margarine.

Neither. We don't have those brands in the Netherlands. We do have something called Blue Band margarine. Close enough?

That Is A Beautiful Emerald X-30--Enjoy!

I hope that you're able to resolve the scale-length issue to your satisfaction.

Vaalserberg is the highest "mountain" within the Netherlands (323 meters). However the island Saba, which is a special municipality of the Netherlands, has an 887 m (2,910 ft) high volcano: Mount Scenery.

Thanks. I am satisfied with Alistair's explanation, quoted in post #21.
