hehe with you there my friend. Last time she asked how many guitars I had the answer was two. It's been a while she asked me but the answer will still be two!

Well . . . back to the original question: my significant other who at the moment is my wife knows all the acoustics, though not by model. She has her own identifying system:

1. The Memphis guitar (purchased, of course, in Memphis--same with other geographical identifiers)
2. The Santa Monica guitar (also the Rose guitar because it has a rose inlay on the headstock)
3. The Nashville guitars
broken down as:
a. the maple guitar
b. the sunburst guitar
c. the used guitar
d. the dark guitar
4. The Martin
5. The travel guitar

She might be able to identify nearly all by sound. Her favorite is the Rose guitar. Mine too.

With electrics she doesn't know and doesn't care: except for the Tangerine guitar.

My wife knows OF the guitars, just not WHAT guitars. She also knows enough not to bug me about them, as they're my only vice, but heaven forbid that she sells them when I'm gone for the amount that I said I paid for them, lol!

My wife knows I have guitars, but doesn't really know which is which. Even though it's been almost three years since I've gotten any new guitars, she still sometimes looks at one of my cases or guitars and says, "Where did THAT come from? Were you trying to hide if from me?"

OK folks, let's keep the topic on track here and get away from the social commentary. If anyone watches the video, this great husband and wife team even mention the question can go for both husbands and wives. PLEASE let's move on with the topic and not all the ancillary stuff, for crying out loud, this was suppose to be a FUN thread.

I know his and he knows mine. I know more about specs on acoustics than he does. He didn't think there was anything different between the D-18 and his MMV. He's more into electrics and knows all about different pickups whereas I'm less versed with that.

I still consider him "the guitar player" and me the "bass player" that has picked up acoustics to keep myself entertained.

ROTFLMAO...…..Good stuff B-BOB

My Late, First EX, wife did not care much for my Martin D-35 because most of my playing was dedicated to learning blues. Nor did she care much for my Martin D12-20 because it made a lot of 12 string noise. BTW, two guitars I wish I had back but not the wife.

My second wife and the first love of my life (now deceased) was a country singer (think Patsy Cline) and she loved all music (but not opera) and sang with many bands as well as at weddings, funerals, etc. She had her own microphone and some other gear, so she was into knowing about guitars, drums, equipment brands, setting up sound, etc. When she got sick and I was her caretaker for several years, she would love when I sat around and noodled on the guitar for hours. So Yes, she encouraged me to buy what equipment I needed and we would sit and shop guitars together on the internet.

My third and current wife and the second love of my life (also a close friend of my second wife now deceased and the first love of my life) loves music and loves the Blues and absolutely loves all the guitars on stands displayed throughout out home. She knows their worth, which cases and paperwork go with which instrument, and has been learning to play.

So there you have it. More information than you need to know! LOL

The real question is, does your spouse know how many guitars you have and how much you've paid for them?

I am presently single. The plus side of this is that I can play guitar all day whilst the kitchen is a tip and I have other things I really should be doing instead and nobody will complain.

My wife knows almost everything about my guitars, especially their tones. She can pick out which one I'm playing from another room without seeing them 9 times out of 10.

She's a musician too (banjo, bass, guitar & harmonica) so has a pretty good knowledge of gear.

My wife is not a musician but we go to a *lot* of concerts together and she has seen me perform every one of the (few) times I've been up on stage.

She doesn't know my guitars but she certainly recognizes them and usually asks about a new one I have on my workbench.

She knows I prefer the Taylor brand (probably because of the magazine, and countless t-shirts I wear).

So, she doesn't know them personally but she knows them. Sort of like a cat that doesn't let you pet it. You always see it around the house and recognize it.
