You don't want electronics, I take it? Elderly has one in stock with electronics.

I’ve had two custom orders done. One was a 15 month wait and the other was an 18 month wait - both totally worth it. Any amount of time is worth getting exactly what you want from the luthier that you most want to work with but 2-3 years is probably most reasonable for me.
Best,
Jayne

I'm only 59, but yeah I hear you. Lots of fun guitars to play and music to make so I'm not much of the waiting type.

I waited for about 11 months for a Halcyon NL-00. It was a great guitar. I am now in the process of ordering a guitar from the Martin Custom Shop.

That's a hard one.

The maple Guild F-412 sets a high standard with it's unique one piece unbraced arch back, I don't think there's anything out there similar but I can imagine a Gibson SJ-200 12-string might come mighty close.

The rosewood F-512 is also superb, I'd be happy with either of them.

Hi Stonehauler,

Wow, I'm sorry you are having to wait so long for a Guild F512 maple 12-string. I have no idea what to suggest.

I own a Guild F512 (rosewood) and it's my all-time favorite 12-string over almost 6 decades of playing. But if a maple version is what you want, you may not be happy with the rosewood version.

I wish you well on this problem.

I wonder about Sheila's suggestion:

Non-bespoke, you said? Wait time should be zero. The time you spend should be to find one in stock. If that turns up nothing, either a) keep looking, or b) get a different guitar.

Default How long would you wait for a new guitar

I waited the year or 18 months for the rosewood F-512 versions to become available. They shipped three to my local Chicago Music Exchange. I went down the same day to play all three, plus some other 12s and left with what I considered to be the best sounding 12 I’ve ever played. If maple is what you want then wait. But if you can track down the rosewood version within a reasonable drive, I would recommend trying it. Guild is making outstanding guitars right now. You might become smitten with the rosewood.

When I ordered my custom Larrivee 12 string in 2005 (mahogany top, back & sides, Venetian cutaway, bone nut/saddle) I had the opportunity to play an L09 12 string with quilted maple back and sides that was one of the best maple 12 strings I ever played. I have a flamed maple parlor that is also top shelf.

For a long time, I wanted a Guild 12 string but I could not be happier with my Larrivee. If I couldn’t find a satisfactory answer on a Guild, I’d look for alternatives.

I’m waiting all summer (maybe longer) for a Waterloo WL-14X tuxedo, but that’s probably a ‘bespoke’ guitar.

I say don't settle for less and wait for the best! That is a very unique guitar. The Rosewood is going to be very different tone, I would want the maple.

Ask nicely why they are having issues with filling your order as promised and maybe someone can help speed things up somehow.

It seems everything is messed up with pandemic supply problems and labor shortages, you might just have to be patient. Maybe find another "pacifier" guitar to hold you over and then sell it later??

I have asked nicely, but I have not yet gotten a response. It would be nice to know…

That depends on how much the Luthiers is asking for a deposit.

To the OP - wait it out, it will be worth the wait and you will appreciate the guitar more!

I ordered my Gallagher G-71 Special in December 1973 and received it in May 1975. Seems like I made 5 or 6 trips up to Wartrace, TN to check on the progress (about 615 miles from home). It was well worth the wait and is still a fantastic guitar!
