Rebecca was of course disappointed and happy to have only that one set of the mysterious cracking wood! So what does she do? She pulls out this beautiful set of Madagascar RW for my perusal. After 2 1/2 seconds of thorough contemplation and inner soul searching, I said yes to the dress, I mean set!

As I said, plan B's are often better than plan A's. This will still be great with the Tunnel 14 top as well. More choices coming up.

It’s a shame that you’re having to “settle” for such a “common” species of timber as Madagascar Rosewood. Don’t the poor peasants use it as kindling to stoke the fire for warming their stone soup?

All kidding aside…that is an absolutely stunning set of MadRW, and I’m looking forward to seeing/hearing it at BIGg3r this Fall.

Hopefully you can pass this story on to Rebecca and perhaps she will give it a try too.
Tim…thank you for the “giggles” to go with my coffee this morning. I’m also a practitioner of the phrase “yes dear”…though I’m not a “trophy husband” by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes, for sure, as I mentioned, plan B often turns out better than plan A. Kathy has taught me that for sure.

So here is the new back meeting up with the Tunnel 14 smokey top and a beautiful piece of BRW for the fingerboard. This will of course lead to a BRW bridge as well. The rosette is also made from a very highly colored piece of BRW Rebecca had. Looking pretty good for a plan B!

Wow! That guitar has a lot going for it! I love the rosette as it seems to bring it all home without yelling and screaming. Just a great bunch of choices here that ring true! All the best.

Just stumbled onto this thread and glad I did. This looks to be a spectacular guitar in the making. Beautiful wood choices. Madi is one of my favorite woods for tone and for looks. The redwood is killer also. Should be a fun one to see develop!

Thanks, I do not have a Madi Rosewood guitar, so besides being beautiful it will be a one of a kind in my house.

Rebecca has done the floating back stripe made from the same colorful BRW as the rosette. I think it came out great.

We have been discussing the binding and the purfling. Initially with set A we were not going to use any purfling, but with the darker Mad Rose, Rebecca thought some lighter purfling (Maple) would help to set off the colors some more so this is what she came up with.
