How Many Guitars Is Too Many?

I currently only have 2 and I am considering getting another soon, and thought why not just hold on to the ones I have and have 3. When should you stop buying guitars, when is enough? Do you have a room full (that would be nice) I can see myself down the line owning maybe even as much as half a dozen How many do you have and how many more would you like?

i'd say there's no exact number. it's combination of how much space you have vs how many different guitars you actually play. since there are many sizes, sounds, etc, one can play many guitars across a month.

Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to know the answer until you know the answer.

Any serious guitar player must own at least 53 guitars (and you all know which ones I'm talking about).

It's ok to own 5 or 6 guitars but why limit yourself? Why limit your playing?

The average house is approximately 18,000 cubic feet in volume.

The average guitar is approximately 3 cubic feet in volume.

So, 6000 guitars is too many. On average.

Personally, I put the upper limit at how many pairs of shoes my wife owns and the number of stuffed animals my kid owns. We all seem to be obsessed about something.

I can see myself having something like 8 guitars hanging on the wall... I'd call that too many. :P

50 is too many, 49 is fine..............unless you live in a country with a vowell in it's name, then it's 63 unless it's cold outside, or you own Goldfish. Simple.

I think the number varies. For me, my limit would be when the wife threatens divorce.

All kidding aside (which there seems to be a lot of here on this topic - and that’s OK!). The right answer will vary from person to person. For me, I found that 3 was too many. At one point I had a Fender Strat, a PRS Santana and the Takamine listed below. There was always one that was almost always left out of the loop; and it wasn’t always the Tak.

Besides that, I was finding I was spending too much time (at least for me) on guitar maintenance issues. I don’t have as much time to spend playing as I’d like. So, I’d rather spend as much of that time playing as I can and not working on them.
