Capo with 12" Radius for J45?
Hello all. I am experimenting with capos for my J45 Standard. Is there a good, reliable capo to match the fretboard's 12" radius?
Thanks! |

G7 has a yoke style which is supposed to "adapt" to different guitar radius measurements. Even if it works, it is way too expensive. |

Check Thaila, these have snapin tuning pads that come with every capo, covers most all the radius' there are. Even one for a classical, they aint exactly cheap, I think they are still running a pretty good sale at the moment, (I still get their mailings..)
they also offer B Stock cheaper,, I went with a B stock for one of them, (I wound up with two) and it was fine.. I really like them. Check em out. https://www.thaliacapos.com/ |

My favorite for the J-35 and J-45 is the Kat Eyz. Very low profile, snugs up quickly without excessive tightening......excellent tool. I also have an Elliot and the G7th Heritage (the one with the auto-adjusting radius device) and while they are fine capos, the Kat Eyz is the one for me. All three work fine with the Gibson radius.

I like the Thalia unless you are moving it around, removing and reclamping mid solo gig.
BTW: I have a new guitar that has 11.81" radius. I absolutely love the roundness for freedom of excursion with less planning. I wish more makers would go rounder. Perhaps even a 10"? Would love to try/order a subtle 10-12" compound radius. Break out the CNC programmers and plek perfection luthiery. |

I use an old brass Shubb on my J 45. Works great.

I just bought a Paige yoke style capo, and it seems to work very well on my J-29’s 12” radius. So far I like it better than the Shubbs I have been using for years.

Moving it up and down the neck is a breeze but you are correct that it's not the quickest moving it between guitars. I solved that problem by getting one for each of my guitars.

Shubb custom bent a capo to 20" for me for my Rainsong WS3000.
I'm sure if you e-mailed them they would do the same the other direction. Only downside is you would have to buy from them directly and thus pay full MSRP.

Elliot capos. You specify the radius and neck dimensions. They will get you what you need. It’s not cheap but they are great.

I've pulled the sleave and re-bent a Shubb for one of my guitars that had a tighter radius. It was easy, but I have a nice home shop. |
