Default Spruce top for playing w/o fingernails?

http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=346116

I'm spec-ing out a nylon 7 string. I mentioned to the builder that I don't have nails and probably won't be able to. He suggested a spruce top to add a little more snap. What say you?

He/She is most likely correct. A lot has to do with how that luthier builds. Getting good tone without nails is difficult without a pretty responsive guitar. Spruce has a bit brighter output than Cedar, so it would, most likely, give that extra bit needed to sharpen the tone.

Perfect. Thanks. I figured he was right, but wanted a 2nd opinion since it's a tad pricy.

Spruce is brighter than cedar but I wouldn't recommend playing classical without nails.
You can keep your nails short and play the bass and the guitar with no problems.
