Default Guild Mark construction materials

I need some help from the more experienced members of this forum. I would like to know:

What kind of glue did Guild & Carlo Greco use when assembling the top end Mark guitars constructed of Brazilian Rosewood?

As I understand it, BR is notoriously hard to glue due to its oily nature. I have a loose brace at the lower treble bout that is not cooperating with my luthier's attempts to re-glue it. He asks: did they use animal glue? (he suspects not - as the instrument originated in a high production environment) If not animal glue, then what else might they have been using in the mid-60s?

Having this knowledge might help us bring this old Mark back from the brink.

Thanks very much,
zzwerzy

I do not know either, but if you drop a note over on the GUILD FORUM, bet some of the experts there can answer your question.

Good luck.

I'm not sure why your luthier doesn't just use whatever glue he needs to make the fix work. It shouldn't matter what was used in original construction; just use whatever will work for the repair. He should be able to use modern aliphatic resin glues (e.g. tite-bond) on BRW or other resinous woods. Otherwise, if he can use hide glue, then use it even if that's not what Guild used originally.

So, not really sure what the problem is. One doesn't need to use for repairs what was used in original construction unless we are talking about a valuable antique where historical preservation was an issue. Heck, I'd just use a screw if it would work and not screw up anything else.
