Default When do we get a carbon fiber resonator guitar?

1) When do you think it will happen?

2) Do you think it is worth it?/Do you think it will offer any advantages over a wood resonator guitar?

I'm thinking the hollow neck of a CF would make for some more resonance and really cool tones.

Steve, I do remember reading about a banjo that uses a CF resonator but couldn't find it again. A quick Google shows some experimentation has been done with various composite materials but not at a production level.

As a banjo picker, I have tried some carbon components (bridges) on my five string banjo. They sounded terrible. I think for a tenor banjo that is strummed, it would be a good sound.
Not for a bluegrass style banjo. IMO

If anyone would try either a resonator or banjo, I'd think it would be Alistair at Emerald.

Beltona's have a unique sound to them. Some folks love them and others just don't. I don't love the tone to be honest, but they sure are nice and lightweight! Build quality is excellent too.

Speaking of slides: I've been told that a CF Guitar like the Shorty does well with a slide. Having a bit of an issue adjusting to the lower action but more to the point, what slide do you guys recommend?

I'm using a mudslide that I've always liked with my resonator but I'm thinking I ought to experiment.

Default just found this old thread....

....and thought you might be interested to know that Rob Bishline in Tulsa, Oklahoma has been experimenting with CF for years. Here is a production banjo he is doing. He makes very nice instruments. I have owned two of his banjos. Here is a link...

Some unwanted tones are likely also possible.

I had a blackbird lucky13 in my hands for a week a while back - it has a hollow neck- and on a whim I threw on a nut extender and played some lap slide with it. It sounded really great and I think a cf weissenborn could be a great thing.
