Default Modify Ultrasound DI Max for Efx loop- Crazy idea?

I love most things about this unit, but wish it had better EQ and an Efx loop. I'm thinking of using the existing line out jack (I always use the XLR out) and the 1/4 inch channel 2 mono input (I use TRS for both channels on the channel 1/XLR input) to create an Efx loop that would go to the XLR output. (I want to use an EQ/Boost pedal). Is this crazy to mess with? If I can find the right 2 or 3 pole switch and a place to put it, it could be switched between normal and EFX loop function.

I always know that if I take a soldering iron to a piece of gear I risk ruining it. If anyone DOESN'T think this is nuts, some advice please- should I take the signal OUT from the line-out BEFORE the line-out gain control, or after?
