Default The pathways of fortune....

I have been a forum member for a long, long time. As some of you remember, I was close to living on the streets for some of it, well much of it. Some of you sent donations to help me eat, many encouraged me, Cotton sent me wonderful emails after my medical issues humbled me, Dru and others, hard to thank you all enough. When poverty was my only companion you guys never deserted me.

Well, its all changed over the past couple of years. I am now working for the UN, the WHO, the health ministry, you name it. I am leading a team at the WHO, teaching at our local university and somehow making it.

I just want to recall the Tom Hanks story in Apollo 13, my favorite movie, where he is lost at sea with no nav system. He sees some plankton on the ocean and follows its trail to the carrier he needs to land on. Had his cockpit light not gone out, he would have never seen the plankton and would have been lost at sea.

He concludes that we never really know what turn of fortunes are waiting for us.

Thanks for all your help over the years in the form of moral support, many private messages and many reassurances.

I'm totally unaware of your trials and tribulations, but I think it's safe to offer some congratulations for your obvious turn of fortune...

Yes, I am glad to get an update to your story, Davis. I'm glad the fear of living on the streets has been lifted from your vision of the future for now.

Take care and be well, Davis.

Sounds exciting, what is the focus of your team at WHO?

Davis, what a great turnaround! It sounds like you're making a difference with your new job. Leading a team can be very rewarding when you understand that you're there to lead, motivate, facilitate, collaborate, support, and listen but not dictate.

You are correct, we never know what fortunes (or perils) await us but sometimes we may need to give it our own push, which you did.

Keep up with the high spirits Davis!
