MRI - not good for guitarists.
Had my annual MRI scan yesterday evening.
Wih earplugs and sound "cancelling earphones the sound is a bit more intense that standing in between two jackhammers whilst someone starts up a Spitfire and an F1 car ...... for 90 minutes!!! So, Mando Bob came over this afternoon to rehearse for tomorrow night. I discovered that both my Collings DS2h dread and my Santa Cruz "RS" both sounded "horrible!!" So bad, that I resorted to using my hearing aids. To me at least acoustics with any hearing aids sound like a UST with a chorus FX on it, nasty! Getting old ain't for sissies! Anybody know better?

Ahhhh, Bette Davis quote. My father used to quote de Gaulle: "Old age is a shipwreck." I'm 66yo and experiencing several "age related changes" (as they say) which are just starting to affect my playing. I like to think if it's a shipwreck let it be one on the rocks, above the water where even if you can't sail anymore you can still feel the sun and breeze. Play on!

Agreed. Temporary hearing loss is common after MRI: https://www.hearingsol.com/faq/is-it...-after-an-mri/

I also had an mri done this week. I did all right with the sound, but when they administered the contrast solution I thought I was going to puke all over myself inside the machine. Luckily, the nausea only lasted a few minutes, but I wished they would have warned me what to expect before we started.

Good info. I did not know this, and have never heard anybody warned about it.

I was warned by the tech that even with the headphones the noise is bad. A colossal understatement. It can be annoyingly loud. That chug-chug-chug grates on me.

I’ve had half a dozen head MRIs over the years and of course it’s never a pleasant experience. When I’m in that contraption I go to to my “quiet place” and I pray for people and situations and before I know it the MRI is over. My brother just thinks about every fishing vacation he has been on when he’s in that thing. Point being, you just have to get your mind off where you are really at. Btw SM, 90 MINUTE MRI? I’ve never had one longer than 30 minutes. Why 90 minutes if you don’t mind me asking? As a side note, I asked the MRI tech once if people hit the panic button once inside the machine and demand to get out and he responded “all the time”. Ha!
