A silly questions about fingering ....
How would you finger this little riff:
e--------------------- b-2-3-5-7-8-10--12-- g-0-0-0-0-0--0--0---- d-2-4-5-7-9-11--12-- a--------------------- d--------------------- do you start with your index on the 'd' and your middle on the 'b' and then add your ring to the 'd' at the offset condtions? or do you start with your middle on the 'd' and your index on the 'b' and only use those two all the way up (easier to rotate the middle finger for the offset conditions)? I am leaning toward the 2nd scenario. Is there a better way?

i'd do it like this, keeps your third finger on the fourth string most of the way up:
Code:
e--------------------- b-2-3-5-7-8-10--12-- g-0-0-0-0-0--0--0---- d-2-4-5-7-9-11--12-- a--------------------- d--------------------- 2 2 4 4 2 2 4 1 3 3 3 3 3 3 |

BTW, it's not a silly question at all.

+1 on that. Like Bern said, it isn't silly at all. Alot of times you have to deviate from a standard fingering (but not in this case) depending on what is played before and what comes after. For instance if you saw this
XXX22X You might think that you could just use the middle finger and ring finger, but if this came after it, XXXX3X and then 224432 (Bm) You would be better off playing the XXX22X with a barre and then just lay down the Bm chord to to the rest.

I appreciate the responses. Neither feel comfortable. I like either:
b-2222222 d-1311332 or b-1111111 d-2222222 (1 = index; 2 = middle; 3 = ring) They feel more comfortable. Is there anything 'wrong' with these fingerings? Should I work on a 'standard' fingering for future use?
