Default Cheaper Soulmate Equivalent?

So last night I had a gig with my acoustic duet and my father (the other half of said duet) plays leads. Well, he forgot his pedal board, and so on the second set I let him use my Soulmate, while I just ran with my onboard Yamaha SRT preamp.

He fell in love - and, honestly, so did I. His leads have never sounded so good. Of course, now he's scouring the internet for Soulmates (lol) but he doesn't have the budget to drop on a new one.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a cheaper alternative that will sound just as sweet (if not better). He likes, and used, the loop feature, but he also already has a looper, so that wouldn't be a deal breaker. Mostly the compression, reverb, boost, and delay in one unit (that sounds good) is what we're after.

Thanks everyone!

Boss AD10 is a great choice. Check to see if it has compression though.

Zoom AC3 or the cheaper Zoom AC2.

Not easy to find everything on the Soulmate in one package. I think the AC3 has it, except for the looper. The Tonedeq has most but no parametric EQ.
The Trace Elliot Transit A has all that but no compression. The Tech 21 Flyrig might be an option. Not sure if that one has chorus and it's awfully small and lightweight.
Boss AD10 is another, but pretty complicated and not dial-driven like the Soulmate. Lots of hidden menus, which can get cumbersome for live tweaking.

I think those are the best choices for what your friend is looking for.

I got my Soulmate in mint condition used for $300 with some extras thrown in. Had to keep an eye out for a bit as they don’t seem to come up often, but if you are talking about paying retail new and want that specific unit they can be had for quite a bit less.

Thanks for the insight, everyone. So far, the Boss AD10 seems the most promising, but I agree that it does seem a little cumbersome for live tweaking. We'd have to rely pretty heavily on presets. However, we definitely play in some crappy sounding rooms, so that might require some fine tuning on the fly.

I always write off Zooms for some reason. Maybe I should check those out more seriously. In my head, I always feel like they sound too "digital", but I've never played one, so that's just some weird bias that I have.

Yeah, I've been digging around for used ones over the past two weeks and have come up empty handed. Who's looking to ditch theirs? Help a brother out AGF!

Why did I think this was going to be a thread about high-maintenance women?

I didn’t realize I had left this on my reverb feed as they don’t pop up much, but two showed up today. One excellent condition for 375 with free shipping. Thought of this post so passing it along: T-Rex Soulmate Acoustic Guitar Processor https://reverb.com/item/31295356-t-r...ntent=31295356

I have owned the fly rig and the trace Elliot unit. I did not like them near as much as the soulmate. I would recommend snapping up a used one if you can find it.
