Just hum into it. What ever pitch you hum will come out with a kazoo sound.

Certainly a poor man's harmonica. So much easier to play. I do use one some when I do children's music.

Definately look for those vintage Brazillian ones.

Ever play a Basoon, Clarinet, Trombone, Sax, Flute, or whistle ?

Its exactly like that, except you dont blow.

You just hum.

Sorry, just bored.

You just use an open throated hum.

No skill or musical talent required.

It's like whistleing, but a whole lot easier.

I have one in a harmonica rack that I keep around when I am trying to be goofy!

They are a LOT of fun ESPECIALLY if you have a bunch of them and get everyone playing one. Yakkity Sax is a good one!

I just played one today. We got it as a prize in an arcade on the boardwalk by the seashore. They're silly. They're fun. They're cheap! You can sound like a duck or a cartoon soundtrack all with a little hum.

Enjoy it Tayloralf!!

I guess I am from a much older (or poorer) venue. You can make the same sounds by using a piece of waxed paper and a pocket comb. I wonder how many kids these days even know what waxed paper is...

Kazoos are a lot of fun, especially around kids [and drunken grown-ups]. Try one with a harmonica rack and let the kazoo do your lead runs while the guitar does the rythm. Remember Ringo Starr doing "You're Sixteen"? throw that in where the sax lead run is and wear it out. Sure gets a lot of grins at oarties.

In the early 60's a folksinger named Eric Darling used to play a 12 string with a harmonica in a holder ala Bob Dylan style,he also had a kazoo stuck in there, and did an incredible version of" Bill Bailey",getting close to the one man band thing..good fun! God bless, Pastor Harry
