Default '56 Martin 000

I don't know much about guitars but I've been trying to teach myself lately. The other day I walked into a great used instrument shop in San Francisco called Real Guitars and played, among many others, an amazing '56 Martin. The sound was clear, sturdy, sustained - I don't know, but it sounded to me like...well, like a Taylor 514! They had another '58 Martin that was cool too but not nearly as impressive as this '56. Anyone else had this experience with an older Martin or am I nuts?

BTW, to me the new Martin 000s that I've played sound pretty dead. It's all personal I guess.

Hey Reed
I've got a 53 D28...really clean. It's a real cannon.

The nicest Martin I've played was a 60's D-something in brazilian. If $3500 had been in my pocket, it would have come home with me.

The best Martin I ever played was a '56 D28 that had the neck reworked for better action.. Magnificent sound. If I could get that sound on a new Martin........welll..............
