Default Death of Anthony Bourdain

I was shocked and saddened by the death of chef, author and raconteur Anthony Bourdain. I greatly admired his wit, his work and his compassion for others.

Rest in peace, Anthony.

Sad and shocking that such a "Bon Vivant" would take his own life. He was irreverent, daring, a bit crazy (in a good way) and a gripping TV host. Very sad, indeed! RIP

Very sad. RIP.

Suicide has been on the rise for at least a couple of decades. It is virtually impossible to reach a definitive conclusion about the "why" of such a trend. But I think it can certainly be taken as testimony to the importance of each person seeking out wise counsel about the causes of enduring happiness and/or contentment, and seeking kind and understanding support any time there is a greater than normal level of upset or upheaval in one's life.

Surprised to hear this news. I guess we can never really know what kind of pain anyone is experiencing based on outward appearances.
RIP

Yes very shocking. I was a casual watcher of his TV show. He was an interesting character. I feel bad for his young daughter.

i'm sorry that he ended his life! i never watched his show but he was a human being. this shows that we have a mental health issue when people are committing suicide left and right. when kids are shooting other kids so that the cops kill them when they didn't want to commit suicide. when people are strung out on opioids because something in their life is not right.

play music!

Was surprised to hear of his suicide but then I generally am when people decide to end their lives.

Having lost several from my HS class to suicide, and having close friends and family members with significant mental illness, headlines like this are always a punch in the gut.

Very sad. Horrible for his young daughter.

I followed him throughout my culinary career, along with many of my fellow culinarian’s. It is a sad day in the neighborhood, for sure.

Lots of effected people in this town. If you know anyone who suffers from depression or addiction don't hesitate to speak to them about their issues when applicable. Sometimes your support and a reminder that there is someone who will listen can go a long way.

Default Death of Anthony Bourdain

Every time I have watched Parts Unknown (frequently) I felt a distinct admiration for Anthony Bourdain, in both the joys and the life-pains he has shared with his viewers.

I always felt it would be *lucky* to have led such a life as his...such an interesting journey. I can't imagine anyone watching his adventures and *not* feeling this, in fact.

...and now this.

Suicide is something familiar in my family...mother and sister, gone.

Each and every time I see suicide, now, with someone that I feel a connection to (however remote, as with Bourdain), I immediately place myself with the feelings of the family of the deceased, knowing first-hand, and quite viscerally what this feels like.

I have also known some despair in my life, but nothing, I think, out of the ordinary. Nothing that rises to this level. Bourdain had his demons (as they say), and now the world is considerably less rich and more pained with his passing.

I guess I'm just rambling, while in the Midwest, doing some traveling, ironically, to attend a Celebration of Life for a dear college friend who passed away a couple of months ago.

Today, more sadness.

I will end with a verse and message from one of Chuck Pyle's songs (and we sure miss Chuck every day):

"If today were your last day,
who would you call,
what would you say,
and what are you waiting for?"

I spoke with a co-worker today, she was quite inspired by him. I didn't know much or any of his back story, not being a follower of the show(s). Apparently he used to be a fairly heavy heroin user. Started out as a line cook, and then started blogging about the things that went on behind the scenes in restaurants. Got a book deal, then that led to "No Reservations", which in turn led to "Parts Unknown" on CNN. Cool story.

Had a close friend commit suicide, I really feel for those close to anyone in this situation.
