I've had them both for over 30 years. A 1920 A3 and a 1930 L-1. Got the mandolin in graduate school and the guitar from my father in law, during our first year of marriage. He just happened onto it. Neither of us knew anything about guitars back then - ha!

Hey FD, you don't have the '20 A3 in your signature. Did ya forget it?

What is interesting is that with five pages of posts not one 12 string has appeared. I realize the 12 stringers are rarely somebody's main player but there is a certain itch that only a 12 string can scratch. I love the 1960s Gibson 12 string guitars. You can argue all day about which body shape and which of the numerous bridge configurations were the best but no matter which you prefer, there was nothing else out there even remotely similar in sound. As far as I know, still isn't. I played an early 1963 B45-12 for years. Traded it off and instantly regretted it. Luckily it was a mistake I did not have to live with and am going to pick up a 1961 slope shoulder version at the end of the week.

On this page I show my guitars. On the mandolincafe, I show my mandolins - mostly down to the final three - my Cohen A5 (redwood/walnut), my Muth A5 (red spruce/maple) and my A3.

Those mother of pearl inlays are mesmerizing. What does Gibson call that style?

The inlays are usually referred to as "mother of pearl double parallelograms".

I have already posted these in another thread, but I am shameless enough to post them again in this one.

The first Gibson I ever owned, the J45 which was traded away recently for the second one. I still miss it, but plan to have another. I've played quite a few 2018 J45s that I've liked, without running into a single one that I didn't.. so.. yeah, this guitar pretty much blew my mind and couldn't have been happier with it, so it's a double edged sword, trading up for something..

And the 2nd Gibson I've owned, the Wildwood AJ which pretty much cemented everything for me. will be going back for more, likely first for a replacement 2018 J45 , but you never know how things will unfold, right? These things have a way of working themselves out. I was nervous at first as I hadn't been familiar at all with the AJ.. like at all.. but I went on faith and boy.. am glad I did. This thing blew me away, as well- 2/2. Fantastic instrument. One of the better guitars I've ever played, which says alot!

And the last thing that I'll say, in response to some of those collections people posted in the original thread, both Vintage and New alike-- *Wow*. I hope one day to achieve such greatness.
