Price help HD-28
What is a fair price for an very good condition HD-28 that's 10 to 12 years old? Of course, according to the rules, PM your response. Thanks in advance.

Take the list and multiple by .x ( xx percent ) some may go xx - depends on the dealer and where you are in the US.

You can ask over at the UMGF where there are many many Martin guys and gals who might know the answer.

10-12 years old, likely not mint, I'd say less. Plus the market is soft right now. ABSOLUTELY just my opinion. I'd also suggest the UMGF, though I believe I'm paraphrasing what you'll hear there. If it's a guitar you just love the tone and feel of, I'd go for it if it's even in the ballpark. Why quibble about a few bucks if you have the right guitar in hand. If you can find a willing buyer and are going to sell it directly or through Ebay you should think in terms of half of current list if it and its original case are in mint condition and you have not done anything to it to 'customize' it to your personal tastes.
Less than that if it and/or its case are is in less than mint condition or if you have been tinkering with it to personalize it. If you are going to sell it to a dealer or a store, you would get even less. They need to make a significant profit on it when they sell it for the amount you would have gotten selling privately or through Ebay.

Sorry, I suppose I should have stated that I am not selling the guitar but saw what I thought was a good deal. According to what you guys have said I think it's a very good deal. I just sent a bunch of my guitar fund to my favorite dealer to hold a new guitar or I'd be buying it.

Here is a listing for an HD-28S at Elderly Instruments, who, in my opinion, is very fair about their pricing for used instruments. http://elderly.com/new_instruments/items/HD28.htm This is not quite the same as an HD-28, but if you look up one of these new, you have a feel for pricing. Thanks, Glenn |
