Quote:
For me, I tend to go with The National, Perfume Genius, or Nick Cave. Or I'll step into some late 60s music (Jefferson Airplane, Mamas & Papas, Beatles). Perhaps the most introspective and heart-breaking records from last year is Mount Eerie's "A Crow Looked At Me." I'm not sure if it's "relaxing," --- some would argue that its heaviness is exactly the opposite --- but somehow, the processing of his loss and his matter-of-fact grief calms anxieties I feel about my own problems, as I am reminded that we are all mortal humans.

I go with old school new age/smooth jazz instrumentals. One of my favorite groups is Wind Machine. They have 3 nice Christmas albums as well. Also listen to Acoustic Alchemy and Checkfield.

I don't ever really relax, except when I'm in an acoustic jam or song circle. I have Google Play Music and for $10 a month I can listen to anything I want without commercials.
When I'm in the shop or doing housework, I tend to listen to rock, esp Led Zep's first album and Van Halen. Also Beatles (duh), The Who, Bowie (esp Ziggy Stardust) and, lately, Jim Croce. Just a partial list. memmer |

There is lots of music that puts me to sleep but I guess that is "beyond relaxing" music.

Bach. Just let those fugues run around in your brain for a while.

So many flavors of Pat! For a more relaxing ride, check out his duets with bassist Charlie Hayden.

Almost any music I listen to is relaxing to me. However, if I were choosing music to "relax" to it might be Dark Side Of The Moon.

Hmmmm. I never listen to anything to just relax. Or maybe I am always relaxed. The only time I officially relax is in the tub with a book, round midnight. Most of my music listening is while I am driving, which since we have little traffic compared to most of you, might be considered relaxing.
In that case, it's a mixture: classical, traditional old-timey/old country (very old), dixieland, Hawaiian, acoustic blues, ragtime, boogie, Western swing, bluegrass, Irish, modern acoustic guitar (never electric!), folk music from other countries......

Can you suggest a good album for this kind of music?

I can’t say that I’ve ever used music as a relaxation device. Unless I find the music exciting and interesting.... It’s boring.
Nothing worse than the so-called “Space” music which I refer to as “endless noodling.” |

Could be very diverse music - Daughter, Buckethead, Seether, ... this is relaxing and enjoyable for me. Played a lot of Satie and Debussy when I was younger and find it hard to relax when listening since I tend to concentrate too much
