Beat the Pirates 9-1, so we've started 2-0 in St. Louis! If we quit now, maybe we'd win it all! Of course, that might be taking this shortened-season thing a little too far.

We'll have the brooms out tomorrow!

The Pirates are looking to shoot the moon. It's what they do every year.

It looks like problems are starting less than one week in...

Not surprising, but still sad news.

...and if Baseball can't make it, there's no way football can.

Yes, the Marlins/Orioles game cancelled due to 11 Marlins players/coaches having a positive covid test. Yankees/Phillies game cancelled since the Phillies played the Marlins this week-end.

What happens if more Marlins test positive or if 1/2 the core lineup tests positive? The team might have to take the next 14 days off.

NBA and NHL went with bubble cities. Hopefully that will work out better. NFL may have the same issues as MLB.

I thought it was 14 players and that tested positive? That's 1/3 of the team. Seriously, I don't see how MLB thinks that this season is going to proceed. Frankly, I'm surprised that Pennsylvania even allowed the game to happen after denying the Blue Jays use of PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

I heard 11 players and 3 staffers, but that could be wrong. I tend to agree about the season. Doesn't bode well.

If this progresses beyond the current situation and teams scheduling and rosters become affected I don't see how MLB can have any kind of legitimate season, shortened as it is, and legitimate playoffs as they are currently planned.

In fact, if this progresses beyond the current situation I can imagine the MLB players association stepping in to halt play if the owners and Commisioner don't.

My uni is opening up for on campus classes, housing students in dorms, feedin ‘em in the caf. What could go wrong?

Seriously, if MLB can’t stay healthy despite putting the players in bubbles, how is school gonna work?

I had a long conversation with a friend who lives in another state than I do whose 2 younger teenage sons (14 and 12) contracted COVID. He shares your skepticism. Our schools are supposedly going to be opening for in person instruction and I think it's a bad idea but my son insists that he wants to go because virtual schooling was just too frustrating - and in all honesty they really dumbed it down.

Personally, I think that schools should remain virtual and schedule kids to come in only for testing in an auditorium where they can be spaced out so as to prevent cheating.

I am a Miami Marlins fans, a rare breed, and this is the first year in as many years as I can remember that I wasn't in the stands on opening day. Nevertheless, I was all set to have my own version of opening day in front of the TV with hot dogs and hamburgers on the BBQ grill. What a disappointment when 1/3 the team tested positive and the game was cancelled. I spend a lot of time in SW Florida and it was not surprising the Marlins got hit first given how rampant the virus is there.

But this will not be the first outbreak and if MLB gets hit with major outbreaks on 3-4 teams at once, I think the season is over. It has never been clear they were doing enough to contain the spread. I even see some players sitting in the dugouts without masks. If they can't control simple "on-the-field" requirements, how can they possibly control what these athletes do off the field?

The MLB season is in real trouble.

In the same position. My thoughts exactly.
