Maybe not for musical reasons, but one I really dislike would be Hey Jude. Hate repetitious lyrics.

"And now a little tribute to some great songwriters ..."
Oh Blah Dee Oh Blah Dah (or however it's spelled).
Play it in a medley with "The Mighty Quinn". Mmmmmmmm Bad. |

For those of you who may not know the inspiration for the "Mother Mary" line in Let It Be, this quote from WikiPedia might bring a little poignancy to the song. It was a reference to Paul's mother, named Mary.
"McCartney said he had the idea of "Let It Be" after he had a dream about his mother during the tense period surrounding the sessions for The Beatles ("the White Album") in 1968. According to McCartney, the song's reference to "Mother Mary" was not biblical. The phrase has at times been used as a reference to the Virgin Mary. Nevertheless, McCartney explained that his mother – who died of cancer when he was fourteen – was the inspiration for the "Mother Mary" lyric. He later said: "It was great to visit with her again. I felt very blessed to have that dream. So that got me writing 'Let It Be'." When I learned this, for me, at least, the line "When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me" took on a new meaning.

Wow... serious bashing of some songs from my favorite band! I agree that not everything they did was a five-star effort, but some of the choices left me scratching my head. "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" is a really cool tune that, along with "Here Comes the Sun," features really tasteful and creative use of George's Moog synthesizer. The whole Abbey Road album had not a bit of filler, and showed how creative the Fabs still were even through all the infighting.
The less said of "Why Don't We Do It In The Road," however...

It's interesting to note that many have singled out songs such as Yellow Submarine, Octopus's Garden, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Why Don't We Do It in The Road, etc.
IMO, these are the Beatles songs that show the influence of Music Hall traditions, especially in McCartney's songwriting. I think this is often underestimated when discussing the Beatle's influences. Whilst Elvis and Buddy Holly were undoubtedly important, McCartney and Lennon would have listened to performers such as Bud Flannagan and George Formby when they were young. I can hear quite a bit of Formby in McCartney's songwriting. |

Don't think poorly of me, but with the exception of one or two songs, I've never been a fan of the Beatles. I guess they were a little before my time, but their music was never played in my house growing up, so they're a band I never really got into.

Heresy! Just kidding. I think you're in a good position to appreciate them then. My parents didn't like classic rock (70s) music, so I got to appreciate it in my own time. Which suggests the question, what's the best first Beatles album to get--Help or Rubber Soul maybe?
