Default Two Local Rivers

First is the Salmon River. Hadn't fished this river for awhile. Far too many people right now.

And then the Zig Zag. Virtually my own private spot and a ten minute walk from home.

Yes, rainbow and cuts. The river is loaded with chinook. Watching them is awesome. As seasons go, this year the river is closed to salmon and steelhead.

Living outside of Eugene we have many choices...
But we just got back from several days on the Illinois river down south of us.
Beautiful there too.

Steelhead, best tasting fish IMO. Pretty amazing that the river still gets a run of them,

We usually have decent runs for steelies. Rumors suggest larger trout are making a comeback. Habitat restoration has really helped.

I have fished both rivers. Forget on which one (it was last century), my cousin and I handed my pole back and forth, scrambling over logs and rocks in freezing, knee-deep white water, trying to keep a really feisty steelhead on. Thought the line had snapped until I reeled in a hook that was bent nearly straight! Powerful fish.
