Aviation Book
Anybody, especially you pilots out there, ever read Fate Is The Hunter by Ernest K Gann? GREAT read about the early days of commercial aviation. Just finished reading it and man that is one awesome read. Not a new book either. Published in 1961 but still available on Amazon. This guy takes you right into the cockpit when flying was anything but routine like it is today.

I have not, but I've heard of it. I think it was made into a movie years ago.

Thanks for the heads up. I’m definitely going to find that book. Researching stuff while trying to overcome the fear of flying has turned me into an aviation geek. I’ve become so fascinated by it.

I just checked Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, not available on either one unfortunately. BUT, you can buy the Blue Ray DVD for 55 BUCKS or the regular DVD for $175.00!!! off Amazon. What’s up with that I wonder?

Thanks for the tip on Island in the Sky and I think I might surf around You Tube for Fate.

I have absolutely zero interest in aviation, but I will say without hesitation this book was one of the best books I have ever read. Gann takes you right into the cockpit in a way that makes you feel as if you were with him through every close call and crisis encountered during those early seat of the pants aviation times. A truly remarkable work. I was fortunate enough to acquire one of the original hardback versions which I believe is slightly different from later paperback versions.
This book also spurred me to read a host of other aviation books, and among others that I found fascinating was: The Happy Bottom Riding Club : The Life and Times of Pancho Barnes the story of one of the early turn of the century female barnstorming pilots. Great book. A must read for all pilots. I just gave this book to my son for Christmas.

Wadcutter,
Agreed. Even more amazing to me is how many pilots I have told about this book who have never read it. |

What an amazing read it would be for pilots who had never read it before.
